Where can I find a new fuel sending unit? There is a refurb on ebay but it does not look exactly like mine. The float arm is shorter, the inside section of the pickup tube "looks" to be shorter, the sock is different (no big deal).
I'm wondering if it will work because he says no returns.
I would like to find a new one if you guys know of any and where to get them.
    Thanks!!!

Did you try a search?  I think there is a fella on here that rebuilds the Chevy sending units.  I believe he is from Texas.  I'm of course not sure about any of this.  Just drawing on a feeble memory.
    Sorry,
    Jim

    Hey Gary,
Thanks for the info!! Since I am not real familiar with the sending units, I was looking to make sure before I got it from you.
I did however find another one. I'm told it is correct so I am taking a shot at it. If it is in fact a correct unit, would you like to have my old one?? I hate to throw (just about) anything away, especially if the piece is not easy to come by and someone else can use it.
I should know by the weekend. It needs the "coil", I'll call it, that is inside the housing. The wire broke kinda close to the top. It has the "strip" soldered to the stud on the top of the housing also. It looks like someone else was into it before me.
Anyway, if you can use it, just let me know.
    Thanks again,
    Chaz

Sure - I will pay shipping to me

On a replacements, best fit are ones that have the long outlet tubing, flared to mate with the rubber fuel line. I have seen replacements with short outlet lines that require a fitting / barb) (not a big deal thought).

Curious...….Can/Do you build TBI fuel pump module assemblies on these units when you rebuild them?.... That would make buying one of the replacement tanks the way to go for me.....

Don, I have a TBI in my van and when I bought the new gas tank, I installed this fuel pump. http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=84/category_id=61/mode=prod/prd84.htm
I used the stock sending unit for the gas gauge and plugged the fuel pick up. Check out my build thread.

The pickup pictured in that link does not show having a gauge sender (?)….. Did you buy one of tanks inc tanks (?) with two openings or one of the new van replacement tanks for the second gens?
I have been looking at tanksinc's 53 chevy tank, which looks like it will fit but has a larger neck than the van's.....

If you look at page 6 of my Members Showcase thread, I bought the new 24 gallon tank and a sending unit from Vansauto. I used the sender only for the gas gauge and bought that other fuel pump and mount from Tanks Inc. and installed it.
The tank I replaced was the 53CGX from Tanks Inc. but I always had venting issues with it. Namely, I couldn't fill the tank up without the gas pump kicking off. The shop that installed the old one didn't weld in the extra vent line like the stock tanks have. I'm not going to use it any more so if you want it, I would give it to you if you could cover the shipping. PM me if you're interested.
Sorry about hijacking your thread Chaz!

Note using the 24 gas tank in a 1st gen requires cutting, moving & welding the cross support that coincidently has the VIN stamped in it.

    Gary,
can you send me your mailing address? I will send the sending unit to you.
I got everything installed yesterday and I just have to put fuel in it, to make sure it works, and if it does, I'll send the old one. I hope it will be useable for you!!

What unit did you end up buying? If it is one that requires a barb fitting, do you know what fitting part number you bought - I get asked.

    Good luck!

    Hey Gary,
I got it in and it works. I used the one that has the brass fitting on the end. I just got a short - 8'', I believe - 3/8'' brake line and fitted it with that. The line sticks out of the hole about 3+ inches. I put my rubber line on that. Works fine. The only issue was that since it is a tick longer, and I have my new hitch mounts limiting my travel towards the passenger side, there was a bit creative language spoke while trying to get the fill hose and breather hose on. Smile LOL. A floor jack or friend makes it possible.
I will send the old sending unit out to you. I would use the box the new sending unit came in but I would have to bend the float arm too much. I'll use the flat rate box from the post office.
    I hope this helps you!!

I'm still confused......The VansAuto tank does not have a second hole for use of an in-tank fuel pump. right?...… If not I'm wondering if there is a combination fuel pump/ level sender that fits the available hole in the tank...… OR, maybe the tank could be custom-ordered with a second hole like the tanks inc tanks have...
