The van starts when the motor is cold no problem but after I've been driving a while and shut it off, it either barely or just plain won't turn over. I put shorty headers in and the one is real close to the starter so could heat be the problem? Still haven't got the belly pan or the burger fan in so maybe they will help.

Thats a common problem,,,,,,juice has to go from the battery,,,,,,through a connector by the carb,,,,to the ignition switch,,,,,,back through the connector by the carb,,,,through a safety neutral switch if you have an auto trans, and finally to the starter solenoid for it to turn the starter on,,,,,,,,and when the engine is hot, it gets harder for it to turn,,,,,so you get that heat soak,,,,,,,we put a relay at the starter solenoid, so that the ignition switch turns it on and the relay just sends the juice from the positive cable post on the starter solenoid over 1 inch to the S terminal which turns the starter on,,,,,,,

I don't know if it matters but I have the TBI 350 and a different starter.

The top picture came out sideways but I see the three posts on the top of my starter so will your fix do the job?
    Once again, thank you!

,,,All Chevy engines suffer from the hot hard start problems,,,,,especially V8's,,,,,,,,to check if it is an electrical problem, use a jumper wire, starter button or screwdriver to jump from B to S on the starter when you run across a hard hot start problem,,,,,,,is the battery good?,,,,,,I have put a relay on every Chevy I own and well as everyones around me,,,,

,,,any relay will work,,,,,,just take the purple wire, which is the one from the ignition switch that goes to the S terminal on the solenoid and make it work the relay,,,,,,,then connect   10 gauge wires from the solenoid to the relay,,,,
