Re: Shifing set up
I don't think anyone's going to try to take that for a joy-ride! One look at that shifter and the thief will go,

Re: Shifing set up
Okay, NOW I get it.....It's an "H" pattern stick shift trans with the tower coming through the floor.... The left-to-right rotation is for choosing the gate and the horizontal shaft slides longitudinally in the bearings for front-to-rear in each gate......Clever and functional! Kinda rat rod!..... Same gears front to rear but the gates are swapped side-for-side, correct?
Truly "Rat Fink" would have been one continuous stick though!....
Sick!

Re: Shifing set up
Ya Donnie The trans is an sm420 4 speed truck trans Bolts right up to the chevy bell housing And yes AzDon the forward and back gear selections are the same however the left and right selections are backwards. Closest I could come to a true Rat Fink shifter

Re: Shifing set up
Cabover big-rig trucks were ALL shifted with variations of this design where the twist of the shaft selects the gate while the forward/back on the rod selects between two gears....
As soon as I saw the pic of the shift tower coming thru the floor, I knew exactly what was going on!

Re: Shifing set up
I guess next time, you can take a piece of rebar, weld it to the shifter stub, bend it out the side doors, then under the passenger seat, over to the parking brake and then up,,,,,and you got yourself a normal floor shift,,,,,,

Re: Shifing set up
I was thinkin' . . . If you mounted your slides/pivots on the ceiling, wouldn't your shift pattern be correct, even if your shifter is upside down??? OOOh, that made my head hurt.

Re: Shifing set up
Well Doug, I'll tell ya. Bleepin has been used in the proximity of my name many times, but genius hasn't to my knowledge. Another user on here "Dan Nachel" did a bellcrank setup on a 5 speed. Here is a link.

Most of the pix are already gone, but it sounded interesting. I probably would "chicken out" & go with a cable setup. I've been wishing to get a 5 speed manual for my Epup. But I say do it how YOU want.
