do you have a 6 cylinder,,,,,do you have points and condenser,,,,do you have spark to the rest of the spark plugs,,,,,does it start,,,,,,does the rotor turn,,,,,,,could be a bad distributor cap,,,,,,or wires,,,,,

V8 307 whit condenser and points. Motor turn but dont fire up. All was running fine. I have about 500 miles done whit It. On high way , all was ok and pif par pof. Big Back fire . Since that , i start and motor dont have sound. I only Chek the 2 first plug at the front I disconnect the Wire in the center of the cap ( from coil ) and put It on the air cleaner cover, start and have no spark. Where is the condenser ? Before Or After the coil ?

maybe it jumped time,,,,,,you got to have spark and at the right time,,,,,,take a test light, hook it to ground,,,,,,touch the tip to the little wire on the coil,,,,,crank the engine,,,,,the little wire to the distributor should blink while you are cranking the engine,,,,,,,,when you pull the coil wire out of the distributor, crank it and hold it to some metal, do you get spark,,,,,,,we got to start checking at the beginning and work our way down to the spark plugs,,,,,

When i put the coil Wire that go in the middle of the cap, on the Metal of air filter cover, crank engin and have nothing. Only A very small spark when put inition on and off. Buy when start , no spark. Nothing. Condenser is before Or after the coil ?

ok,,,,you got no spark,,,,,,the points fire the coil,,,,,the condenser kinda give the points the juice to send to the coil,,,,,it is a round shiny thing right next to the points,,,,,but you need to go back further,,,,,does the coil get voltage at its + terminal when you turn the key on and when you are cranking the engine,,,,,,and on the little - terminal wire on the coil , it has to BLINK the test light when you are cranking the engine,,,,,,,the coil aint going to spark unless both little wires on it get a signal,,,,thats where you use a test light to see if the signals are there,,,,,,now we are talking about the ORIGINAL distributer,,,,not a HEI or aftermarket electronic conversion, right?

you see the rotor turning when you are cranking the engine,,,right?

Made some test this evening. Power ok on + coil. But no blink from the - coil. I Remove the cap , move the point whit A screwdriver, and Now have blink in the - coil. Put back the cap and motor start 1/4 turn. So the point was stay open Sad. Need to be changed ( new 500 miles ago from the seller ) . Or change all for hei msd.

either the points were dirty from oil or maybe the breaker plate lost its ground because it always is being moved by the vacuum advance,,,that could be what happened,,,on that - terminal,,,,points open turns light on,,,,,points closed wont turn the light on,,,,points closing and opening is what causes the light to blink,,,,but your problem is in that distributor,,,,

also,,,,,,the coil needs 6 volts,,,,,,so there is a ballast resistor in the wire that goes to the + to cut the 12 volts down to 6,,,,,,,,,,,12 volts also burns out the points,,,,,now these red HEI distributors only need one 12 volt wire to run them,,,,,,and you need different spark plug wires with them,,,,,

......now we need some help here,,,,,,,,,,anybody have an 8 cylinder  HEI distributor in their 2nd Gen,,,,,,they have the coil built onto the top of the cap and that makes them bigger and might not fit,,,,,,,my friends are running those points conversion kits in their vans,,,,,,,,
