    Paint Question Empty Paint Question

Post by Lazarusvan Tue Nov 24, 2015 6:30 pm

Paint is coming soon as it is almost fully in primer with the commensurate body work.

I have concerns about the paint sticking to the galvanized area as mine was flaking from contact getting in and out of the front seats. I've seen pics of other vans where the same area was flaking.

Is there any particular advice for painting galvanized areas from the paint pros out there?

auto paint stores like dupont or ppg sell a self etching primer that should be used over galvanized/aluminum or other metals other than steel.

Thanks, Jeremy. Some of that has already been used on exposed metal areas, so I will pass it along. My body and paint man does nice work, but he is not a specialty shop, so we all learn a bit as we go.

Previous owner may have used boat paint because he said it is a nightmare to get off and he really can't sand it off as it just tears up his sandpaper in no time. So the existing paint is proven to be very durable but the galvanized area not so much.
