spare tire hold down parts information Empty spare tire hold down parts information

Post by rustytoolss Wed Jul 08, 2015 5:33 pm

Got a question about the spare tire hold down parts for a pickup. Right now I have nothing. Was the bolt that goes through the slotted brace, a carriage bolt ? if so what size 3/8 or 7/16. And the wing nut also.
If the hold down was not a carriage bolt...what was it? pictures? size ?

My 1967 pickup came with a threaded, hooked rod and wingnut and a big washer with a lip to fit around the center hole in the wheel. Sorry I do not have a photo and my truck is gone.

I don't know if there's a difference between vans and trucks, but mine looks nothing like a J hook. NO, I not getting dirty and removing mine just to take a pic so you can see the difference.

Mine looks like none of those in the E-bay listing. Unless your really anal and have to have the correct parts, keep looking. Otherwise I guess the old saying applies here, "If it works good, use it." Good Luck

My '68 Has the 3/8 " "J" as pictured in a previous post and a 5" Round Disc (think giant fender washer) to hold wheel in place Right Rear of bed. Hope this helps. cheers

The 3/8 J with the large disc and wing nut gary h has stated above is my best guess factory. My 66 panel and 65 window van have them. One is originally from Az. and the other Ri.

I'll be needing this too. Has anyone stuck a tire on the back door? It'd be nice not to take up room inside my shorty with the tire.

The weight may be too much for the hinges.
