Oh great! Missing Sway Bar? Empty Oh great! Missing Sway Bar?

While doing the front spring bushings (and finding bad wheel bearings), I noticed a weld nut and slot in the frame over the axle on each side. Kind of looked like a sway bar bushing mount. I looked in the manual today and sure enough, it's supposed to have a sway bar.

Any ideas where I can lay my hands on one of these? Will other models fit? Or maybe a good engineering drawing so I can get one made at my friendly sway bar bender?

I believe 240's, Heavy Duty's and Special orders came with them. I got one from a part out. There may be an aftermarket part available.

all year Econolines were available with the sway bar. It was an option. The frames were made to accept the bars if they had them or not. There are two styles. A straight bar and a bent bar. Either will work. Pretty easy to find from the guys that sell used parts. Hardware is available on e-bay. Adco makes a high performance after market bar to fit our trucks. It's a little bigger than the stock bars.

Ahhh! So it was optional! That's a relief, Thanks for the info. A couple of folks have sent PMs already and that's good too. My local wrecking yards don't keep anything older than the 1990's (unless it's a Mercedes).

Duane: I see Addco makes a rear bar, but I don't see the a stock # for a front one. I'm looking at 61-67 E-100 Van. Should I look at Falcons instead?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Quickor Garage has the patterns and has made them for at least one member, the front one they made was 1 1/8", which is better than stock.

I've been told you have to call and ask about it. I'm not sure. I've heard it depends on who you talk to at Addco if they sell one or not. Sometimes it's on their website. Sometimes not. I need to quit referring people to them. They always make me regret it.

Duane, I'm pretty sure the 64-67 bent sway bar works on any year but the straight 61-63 one won't due to the brake line. I haven't had to try it but it's been talked about for many years. There's definitely a reason they changed it to bent.

I just sold a straight one at the Nats and have a bent one for sale also.

I thought I heard somewhere that the line could be moved a bit to provide the clearance needed. I could be wrong. I've only used bent bars on the ones I've done.

The 1965-1967 curvy anti-sway bar will work on all 1961-1967 Econolines.

Some have had luck with the third-gen Econoline (1975-91) sway bar, which need a little straightening to work on our first-gen Econolines.

    ADDCO 5606 front sway bar
    ADDCO 393 rear sway bar
Neither are listed on their website.
