First Gen Rear Wheel Cylinders Empty First Gen Rear Wheel Cylinders

Hey guys, Working on rebuilding my brakes on my 66 Sportvan. I redid the fronts already. But had a question.

The front wheel cylinders were about $13 a piece and the rears are like $35 from Napa. Is just how they are or am I looking at something wrong?

About right, just had all 4 of mine done and a local supplier charged $28 fronts and $35 rears but supposed to be top quality ones. Hoses were harder to find, no locals including Napa had them, we had to order Raybestos brand from Rockauto, about $20 each hose and they still say made in China on them....

Can you find rebuild kits? Unless the bores are pitted you can rebuild em way cheaper

Yeah the local auto store can order them, just seemed like a lot between the fronts and the backs but its fine just wanted to check. The hoses were a pain to find like you said. I had to have them special order them.

The rears are an odd size bore (as I was told), so the rebuild kits for them are almost as expensive as replacements.

rear wheel cylinders for 1st and 2nd gen vans are an odd size. they are 13/16 and fit only the G10 vans and 67 to 69 olds 442.

thats why they are expensive (suply and demand)

I went with the   UP37024    7/8" wheel cylinder used on every other gm vehicle from 64 to 1989 (and used on the 4 cylinder van 64 and 65.  Works great and way cheeper (suply and demand)

    Bolts right in.

I found the brake hoses available at "carquest auto parts" in stock for my 66 GMC van no problem along with all the other brake parts you will need..!!!... Very Happy

the wheel cylinders for 1st gen came in 7/8", 13/16, 1" and 1 and 1/16" depending on year and axle ratio.

64 and early 65 (small grill) all used 7/8".

there was three different bore sizes on the fronts, Idon't know which was yours.
