I use the facebook as well. I use the forums and read the magazines as well. I will go anywhere I need to go to get the info I am looking for. For me, facebook is just another avenue for information. I belong to many groups on the internet and visit most of them everynight, even if it's for just a few minits to see what's new. Our forum is still the best for haveing the info at your fingertips as it's easy to find thread by thread. The young people (my kids all use facebook ) don't use forums and probably don't know how to even find them. But they are on facebook everyday...lol. So if we want young people to love these old vans, then social media will help us out. Eventually they will be old people to someday and look back and wonder why the kids in there time aren't reading anymore...lol.

I just cancelled all my Facebook pages. One was about Vintage Camping Trailers, the other about car shows, and my company page linked to my website. I have found Facebook to be a hypocrite when it comes to their Community Standards Policy. Things are posted on there that are pornographic, but when reported they say its ok and within their Community Standards Policy.. I did not want my company Facebook page to be seen on Facebook with those types of content so I removed it, as I removed all my pages. I am in the process of creating a website for each of the pages I took down off Facebook. I will agree with the majority on here that a Facebook page can hurt the forums. I WILL NOT be visiting anything on Facebook.

And as far as I'm concerned the shutting down of the Econoline page was no great loss. They didn't cover much but second generation vans yet called themselves an Econoline site, unlike this site that is model specific. I would like to see the creators of this site add second and third generation Econolines, Dodges and Chevy/GMC vans with the same format. Heck, third generation vans are vintage now. This site is by far the most complete and well oiled site on the web for vintage vans. Now just add second and third generations. Please. (By the way I like the first and third generation Econolines) And this site is family friendly.

It's new age and like it or not all you can do is prepare youre kids, there's no shielding them from the inevitable. It's counter productive. There's no such thing as "kid friendly", kids are the worst.

When I was a kid growing up in Indiana we went and found all the bad things out for ourselves out in the real world around us. And we came home by dark. Today all these morons try and "protect" there children from the world and all they do is make them dim wits

As I said previously, I support and promote any site that helps the hobby. Facebook will never replace this site, it's just too good here. That said, I can appreciate everyones opinion and exercise their option to do as they please. The new page is FOCUSED on 61-67 only so I think it'll do great and has done extremely well so far.

Hate to bust your bubble Seth but protecting kids from the stupidity of this world is not moronic, but your statement is. I would wager you don't have kids. When you do have kids, talk to me then. Unless you're a pervert, there is no reason for pornographic content anywhere except in sick men's minds.

I think he might be talking about this:

In College and Hiding From Scary Ideas

Contrast what these 20 somethings are afraid of and what the greatest generation had to face.

Yes Bill, the folks that are younger than thirty have no clue about fear. If you are 45 or older you had to deal with the Cold War threat, most of the communicable disease threats and a myriad of other issues. I'm 56 and our generation and older have made life too easy for these 20 somethings. Rounded corners on everything so they don't hurt themselves, cell phone technology, video games, etc. They are entertained and think its cool to kill someone on a X-Box game. They also don't have the ethics or morals of past generations. Selfishness is prevalent. The guys my daughters have to look forward to dating and marrying are selfish piss ants with no manners, respect or spines. How do I know this? I interview the bastards when they apply for a job with my company I started 32 years ago. 9 out of 10 don't get hired. They think they are owed a job. These 20 somethings have had it too easy and there the ones voting in the likes of Obama and Clinton.

Well you'd be wrong about that. 3 great kids. 2 girls and a boy. The youngest is 15 now. I could have stated my sentiments better, but I think my point is evident. No one is advocating exposing children to porn. They'll find it on there own if they so desire though. And I really don't understand what facebook has to do with porn.

AZ SuperVan wrote:Just my opinion, but I think Facebook is death to forums like this.  Really, nothing was lost when the group shut down.  You can't search Facebook the way you can search this forum to find detailed information.

Face book is much easier to use than a forum.  For this reason it is going to give folks their Econoline fix and they just won't take the time to come here.  To stay viable a forum has to have a critical mass of new posts every day to keep people coming back.

Nah, there is a place for both, and I frequent both; there were a lot of guys that were active on the fb page that are active here as well. Facebook is more passive-social in nature, and the forum is better for long discussions and hard info. And where does the Yahoo group fit in? A lot of cross-members there as well. One does not and will never replace the other.

I feel like our grand dad's had this discussion about sailing ships and the steam engine...or that carb vs EFI thread I just read. Times change. I agree with Tim. Whatever helps the hobby is okay with me. If people use fbook more than forums - so be it.

If you want, we can go over to yahoo groups and get into arguments with them that this "new" vbb forum software is the devil's tool!

    aol anyone? Smile
