That's some nice cleaning job you did!!! What did you use to remove it? For future reference... What a difference, you just doubled the value with some sweat equity!

Re: New Project 1968 A108 Sundial Camper
Thanks! I had some 1200 grit wetsanding sandpaper on hand, so I took a bucket with water and dish soap and tried to gently wetsand the tagging off. It went pretty smoothly except for the really heavily and unevenly painted red stripe area on the center of the door. That was really hard to get off without sanding through in a spot or two, but it still looks better than it did. I'll probably have time to use rubbing compound and wax the whole van this weekend - I can't wait to see it all shined up!
I try to stay away from the paint stripper and thinner products. For someone with a lot of experience, I think it could be a lot faster, but I tried it once before on a previous VW that had the hatch and nose covered in bad primer, and it was really hard to do a good job.
In the end, clean fine grit sand paper, patience, don't push too hard just get the paper moving, keep the paper clean, and after a couple hours it was done.
I'm going to straighten and repaint the bumper so I didn't put much into sanding it. It's already not original paint, so I don't think I'm ruining anything. Maybe it'll be a little wave mural or something!

Re: New Project 1968 A108 Sundial Camper
Thanks! This weekend my goal is to get the remaining interior stripped, interior cleaned, motor cleaned, fluid changed again possibly, and my ignition un-hotwired. i'm hoping the neighbors won't be able to smell me coming by the end of the weekend. I've found racoon prints, mouse droppings, rat droppings, and there was a family of kittens living in it when I bought it haha.

Re: New Project 1968 A108 Sundial Camper
Thanks! Ended up taking one step forward and three back this weekend! I got the old stinky floor out of my van, but got shorted out by the rain and ended up having to push this old thing a few blocks in the rain back to a parking spot by my house!
After a few days, the short seems to have dried up because the van started and drove yesterday again, but apparently I've got some electrical work to do. In addition to the hotwired coil, and apparently not-charging alternator wire. Apparently, buying a car that's sat since 1988 has it's downside!

Re: New Project 1968 A108 Sundial Camper
Well, took a few steps
Forward the past few weeks - last weekend got my ignition mostly
rewired so the van gets power consistently through the switch. Also put in a new starter, what a nice change all that is!
I've ordered an HEI distributor and coil on the recommendation of the Dart owner I bought my steelies from, but haven't installed it yet. My gauge and alternator wiring is all shot still, so I'll do the distributor on the next electrical day.
Brakes and water pump are next on the list, and at that point this old girl will be somewhat driveable!
Yesterday I spent about 6 hours doing nothing but cleaning. It's still filthy, but a lot better than it was!
Today I'm hoping to finally get a clean fliorboard in so I can get started on carpet and reinstalling the upholstery.
