BIGGEST unanswered question I see is WHICH C4???? I dont see any mention of what sized motor the current C4 is bolted up to,,,, It should be to a 240 motor, ,and if so,, yes, if a small six the answer would be NO as it has a smaller bell housing pattern than the big sixes which it shares with the small block V8's.
Typically the 300's come with a double pulley crankshaft dampener and use a bolt to hold it to the crank shaft which the 240 normally does not in ours. The fan will hit this bolt and is easily fixed by using a 1/2" fan spacer. In regards to the dipstick,,, the 240 pan and pickup is just fine and knocking out the freeze type plug in the block. Use your old pan and dipstick setup.
NOTE OLD TRICK: An easy tip to removing your existing dipstick WITHOUT breaking it is to find a Phillips head screw driver or any round stock for that matter that just barely goes into the dipstick tube. Push it down to the bottom of the tube and use a pair of vice grips to now grab the tube. This transfers the force to the tube as a solid unit and helps to prevent your bending or breaking it. Slowly turning it as you pull it up and out. Normally works perfectly.
The 300 has a LOT more torque than the 240 and really gives you some gearing options because it can PULL. I went from a very quick 240 pulling hills easily and looking for another gear at 80,, to loosing steam going up the same hills with 3:25's.
Put in the 300 and pulls the same hills easily without looking for 2nd gear at the top anymore and had considered dropping the 25's for some 3:00's.
