Occasional loss of power? Empty Occasional loss of power?

Post by BlueSteel Fri Feb 20, 2015 4:20 pm

    Hello van community!

I was driving my van up the coast to do a little spearfishing, and on my way up I felt a loss of power, this happened once or twice before but not as pronounced as it was today.... as I was shifting gears from 1st to second, it felt as if when i pressed the gas pedal nothing happened, the engine rev'd but the power didn't make it to the wheels... i revved the engine a couple more times and the same thing happened again... the engine rev'd but I was getting no power to the wheels.... after several tries the transmission picked back up again & i was keep driving... the whole ordeal took less than 10 seconds, but was a little unnerving. This may have happened before while going from 2nd to 3rd.

    Any thoughts?

Thanks guys (and gals...if there's any out there Wink )

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. Do you have free play in the pedal?

A shudder sounds like clutch as well. Probably wore down to the rivets.

Is free play the pedal how far I have to press the clutch in before it entirely disengages or begins to disengage... and what is the ideal distance?

Should have about an inch of free play.
