Re: something wrong
Rocky!!!...you're suppose to keep the smoke INSIDE the wire. Once it gets out it's real tough to get it back in... . All joking aside, that's a bummer. Maybe the old fuse holder has some burnt fuses, or did you actually burn up some wires under the dash?

Re: something wrong
Hopefully just minor damage, and not a major fire like I had. Good luck with the repairs.

Re: something wrong
that small wire on the positive battery cable on the starter solenoid is a fusible link,,,,,,made to burn out before the van catches on fire,,,,,,,,,when something goes wrong,,,,,,its a 16 gauge,,,,,,,

Re: something wrong
Shorting the dome light power wire should have blown a fuse...they work off the headlight switch. Get a diagram and trace and check all your circuits the best you can with a meter and make sure everything is fuse. PO's often bypass these safeguards over the years to get things to work.

almost same deal here
evidently , my orig. dome were sw/out for the rectangle ones w/ push button on/off , as it went bad and I went to replace w/ same I also touched orange or white wite to metal and that wire wire started to melt the touching end ,but caught it in time that was all , just melted end of wire . also I noticed my headlite sw/ where you turn all the will turn on /off domes wasn't effecting my domes as they are operated by push but. on lite itself.workking fine though

Re: something wrong
The orange is Hot all the time(also brake lights) dome lights use the ground from headlight switch to turn on light. Not positive but think dome is on the same fuse as Brake lights (15 amp)??
