Getting heat out of heater Empty Getting heat out of heater

Post by steelrat Sun Dec 14, 2014 2:37 pm

I have been fiddling with the knobs and controls for the heater. I can get it to blow on high and low both defrost and floor, but cant get heat to come on. Thr temperature knob just seems to turn left and right easily but no change in temp. Any advice?

    Thanks

First, I would check to see if the hoses are conected to the heater. Then feel them to see if they are getting hot. If those two things check out, then I would pull the heater core and inspect the valve. Be carefull with the valve. They are not cheap and hard to find.

The water valve might have rusted shut. Disconnect the hoses and look.
Also the core may be clogged. Disconnect the hoses, connect a water hose from the house and see if you can get water to run through it.

You say the temperature knob seems to turn left and right easily; yet to use the TEMP knob; you pull it out, not turn it. The valve under the van, that the temp cable goes to, likes to get stuck, as mine did. Now have new plastic replacement valve you can buy at Macs, or I got one at Napa.

To clarify....61-64 have the heater on the floor and the knob turns....65-67 have the heater under the dash and the valve is operated by cable that pulls out.

Does anyone have a pic so I can see where to hook it back on, I see the line is off just hanging, I want to put itback on, I put vice grips on the hose to stop the heat coming out, it help a little but it pop off while at a red light, I look in my book but shows no pic of it, just tells you what to do, wish I had a pic of it to see what it looks like to hook it back on, any help
