what is a side step worth? Empty what is a side step worth?

Post by Abitibi Thu Dec 11, 2014 5:17 pm

My '65 Falcon is missing the complete mechanical side step. I found one but not sure how much they are worth.

I'm also missing the beauty ring for the steering wheel. Also found one, do they fit on the normal wheels and what are they worth?

    Thanks!

I have a side step also that I haven't bothered to try and sell yet. I know they are getting very hard to locate anymore and sorry that I have passed taking them in the past. From what I have seen them go for I think they should be in the $250 range depending on the condition as always.
In so far as the "Beauty Ring",,,,,,  I can only guess that you mean the deluxe horn rings for ours. Those came in two models,, one that says Econoline and the other Falcon.  About 4 or 5 years ago I passed on an NOS one that went for about $250 and should have got it. They are most commonly pitted and very hard to locate in decent condition. So would say from $300 down according to the condition and how badly you want it. I have a stack of them but none that are really in the show quality.

Thanks Vic. So I'll follow on the step I found since it sounds I'd be getting a decent deal. The beauty ring is hard to tell condition from picture but same vendor so I might try to get it anyway. It's the Econoline one... I'd rather find a Falcon one but it's all good!

    I think I scored!

Seller didn't wanna ship so had to drive 3.5 hrs each ways on a nice sunny day.
Along the way I got to meet a fellow Wyoming member near the Canadian border. He was having a nap in a rest area... Sorry to woken you up mate!

I was expecting a decent econoline ring horn. What I got was a very clean Falcon one instead which matches my van, bonus! And at $75 I'm more than happy!

    Looks pretty good mounted up...

The seller also had a side step he removed from his van since he wants to slam it down. He had all the parts (at some points) but he was far from being the most organized... The missing part is in his storage locker so he'll have to ship it later on. Now that I see the size of that step I understand why he didn't want to ship, huge!!! Pictures make it look badly rusted but it's only surface rust. It's actually very strong!
I guess he felt bad for wasting some of my time searching for the parts so got it for $25! Very Happy

And this is where the missing part goes:

Both for $100, not a bad day for a Sunday drive!

If you're missing any parts Sam here on the site makes really nice reproduction pieces for the mechanism and also the interior cover for it.

That's good to know! I have the part that attaches to the door and the interior fiberglass bubble although it has seen better days. I'm not sure but i think what I'm missing is a part to lock the step in place?

    Thanks again

Tim and Vic thank you for the nice comments, Mr. D if you have the door parts the adjustable actuating lever rod attaches to you should have every thing to make it work.

Thanks guys for all the info.  Sam, in my close up picture (last one) you can partially see the connecting rod. In front of it there's a flat bar running horizontal with 2 bolts at one end and a opened bump at the other end. Shouldn't there be another part going there? Or on the flat bar that holds the rod? (Seems like there's a hole for a bolt on that flat bar)
    I hope this makes sense!
