Rear running lights Empty Rear running lights

Post by EcoPU Thu Jun 26, 2014 5:57 pm

Anyone know what might cause the rear lights to come on their own?

I have the lights off and indeed the fronts are off. However, the backs are staying on or only going off for a bit when I pull the e-brake up or down. I'm assuming its a switch somewhere linked to the e-brake. They're not the brake lights because when I press the brakes the brake lights come on.

I did replace the master cylinder, maybe it's the switch on the back of it?

    TIA

Your Brake lights are wired directly from the battery to the switch on the back of the MC. If the internal seal goes bad it will fill up with brake fluid and turn on your brake lights till your battery goes dead. Replace it or go to a switch off the brake pedal. The E brake has nothing to do with it. Pre 67?

    Thanks. That's it for sure. It's a 64.

I thought I saw a tiny bit of fluid seeping between the switch and the MC. Perhaps I didn't screw it in tight enough when I transferred it to the new MC.

Do you have a pedal switch you prefer?

In 67 you got a dual "modern" MC. I have a one for my 66 Falcon, My next project, the switch is built into the brake pedal. You should think of a upgrade, you loose one brake line and you have no brakes.

Anyone have ideas on why the running light stopped working on the passenger side rear. I replaced the bulb and same problem. Blinker and brake work, just not running. Group 15 doesn't show it in the 64 supplemental manual, maybe I have to check the main shop manual.

Figured it out, was a connector on the drivers side that had come undone.
