Need help with an engine problem...

Installed the 289 in the Econo with new single pole alternator.

It will crank and start fine but as soon as I give here gas under load she shudders and shuts down.

Put a test light to many connections in gear with engine revved and I'm getting blinking on the test light and the engine shudders.

I'm also getting dischard from the battery.

The light does not blink in neutral with engine revved.

I have replaced the fuel filter and solenoid.

    Any ideas?

How did you wire the alternator +12, to the starter battery terminal? You can rev it up just fine and everything is hunky dory in neutral?  The fact that you are not charging points to a problem with the alternator, maybe. Sounds like a grounding issue, maybe with the alternator when it's torqued by the engine loosing ground or another vital grounding issue if you're blinking 12+ all over and not just in the ignition circuit. Check alternator chassis ground to the block, or add a chassis ground to the block from it, and check battery to block and battery or block to chassis ground.

Did all of the above. Points are petronix in ford dizzy.
I'm thinking safety neutral switch is shorting out.
Anyone have one for a 33 C4 trans?
