Now that's one Nice Piece of Work, Gov'na! Hard to believe that's going to fit in that little PT Cruiser! I want to see it go like Steve McQueen in Bullitt!!!

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
do you think you can fix the gears on my bicycle? its a Schwinn 6 Speed Cruiser... my gear shifter handle casing cracked and I can't seem to get it into really low or really high gear anymore I can get into every other gear but.... may seem trivial to you, but it's not to me
no it doesn't have a motor.... but I love it all the same!

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
I think you need 1st gear more than 6th gear when you ride back home from Walmart in Temecula......
what is the gear set up on the bike,,,,,,do you have 1 or maybe 2 cables that slide the chain from gear to gear,,,,how many sprockets on the rear wheel,,,,,how many on the pedals,,,,1st gear is usually the biggest on the wheel,,,,smallest on the pedals,,,,6th gear is smallest on the wheel,,,,biggest on the pedals,,,,

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
there are limiter screws that might have little springs on them on that swing arm that moves the chain onto the different gears,,,,,,they are for stopping the chain from going past the end of the gears,,,,,,,tip the bike over and pedal it while shifting gears,,,,,,see if the swing arm hits the screw stops before the arm moves enough to move the chain onto the gear,,,,,turn the little screws to let the swing arm move more in and out so it catches the biggest 1st speed and then the smallest 6th speed,,,,,

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
so from what you are telling me, this is the way to "fine tune" the derailer? Am I right? I have a "stationary training stand" to mount the bike to and "pedal" that may work better than just laying the bike on it's side... if so... another question...
what do you recommend to lubricate the derailer? 3-in-1 oil or a good squirt if silicone spray? or "clean it off" with the silicone spray and then "oil it"?

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
Anything is good to keep things rolling smooth,,,,,,even WD40,,,,,,the derailler moves the chain to each gear on the rear wheel,,,,,BUT,,,,,,,if you don't get all 6 gears,,,,the cable might not be moving it from stop to stop,,,,maybe those limit screws are stopping it from moving to each gear,,,,,maybe the selector is not moving the cable enough or not enough,,,,,so if you had to choose, which gear can you live without,,,,1st or 6th? put it on the stand,,,,,see how the selector moves that cable like if it does not pull the derailler far enough to get the chain to 1st gear or if hangs up and wont let the chain drop down to 6th gear,,,,,,normally you can adjust the cable to get at least 5 gears,,,,,1-5 or 2-6 when things wear out....push or pull on the derailler to see if it will grab another grille while you pedal it,,,,,,you might see where the problem is and then we can fix it.....

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
I did get a Chocolate milk shake out of the deal after we got into town,,,,,,,but it just so happened that I was about 5 miles away at the time at Lowes, getting a load of concrete to finish putting a sidewalk around my motorhome when he called me and said his van quit running,,,,,,he said the gas gauge shows he has gas and I had him pull the fuel line off the carb and tell me if gas squirts out when he cranks it,,,,,,,so no gas comes out,,,,,,,easiest test would be for me to bring him some gas and that got him back on the road,,,,,,but at Lowes, I surely like this $19 LED work light with a 12 volt and 110 cord,,,,,,it can light up a whole room.....

Re: Dons day,,,,,,,
Cool, I think I still have a $25 gift card from Lowes and now I know what I'll probably pick up next time I'm in that area. Thanks for the tip. Always nice to see what you're doing...especially underneath the van where all the scary creatures hang out when the lights are off!!! Or like in Omega Man (for those of you old enough to remember) when Charlton Heston would pull into his garage at night.
