Re: gas tank vent hose
Are you saying that it is not hooked up correctly, just hanging there?

Re: gas tank vent hose
No that's not correct. The vent runs from the top of the tank, thru the frame rail hole, then over to the corner where it loops up inside the van where the box is inside the rear corner.

Re: gas tank vent hose
doni.. That is one "UGLY" set up!!! Some factory engineer really screwed the pooch on design, it might be functional, but sure is lacking on cosmetics.

Re: gas tank vent hose
Well that's a good question. All I know is it hooks up to a metal tube that loops around up into the box. I think it just terminates up in there but never really looked into it that far. I know it doesnt run forward to the engine area. Pretty sure it just ends up in there but cant really confirm it.

Re: gas tank vent hose
Are you sure that line is hooked to the gas tank and is not the vent hose on the rear end? The Earlys used vented gas caps,,,,,,when they went to non vented, closed system gas caps, they needed a reservoir and a way to route the vapors to the carburetor. Thats what the system in the blue van is,,,,,4 lines come from the gas tank to that plastic bottle then a line from the carb sucks it into the engine. But plastic gets old and cracks,,,,,,thats the last thing you need in the back of a Hippy Wagon,,,,,,

Re: gas tank vent hose
I just looked in my manual to reaffirm to myself. The vent tube goes from the top of the tank to the filler box. It just goes up and loops back down. This is to prevent gas from flowing out when filling. This will allow the gas fumes to flow out when filling the tank. My 64 Truck has this. The tube in mine was all rusted away and gas would spill on the ground. I ended up just connecting more neoprene gas line to the vent tube hose and stuffing it up there for a loop. It is nearly impossible to find one not rusted away. The gas line I got was for your large trucks, like a semi gasline.
