Brake Drum Adjustment Empty Brake Drum Adjustment

Post by southern man Tue Dec 24, 2013 10:37 am

One of the studs has come loose on my driver's rear wheel and I cannot get the brake drum off to fix it. I've done this many time before, although not on this particular wheel. Can someone tell me which way to turn the brake adjustment screw to lessen the tension on the shoes? Stupid question, I admit, but so far moving it either direction doesn't seem to help, and I want to be sure I'm not making my problem worse.

,,,,IF,,,,you are looking at the drum from the outside,,,,,,the star wheel goes down to tighten the shoes,,,,,,,you need to stick  another rod in the adjustment hole to get the adjustment lever away from the teeth on the star wheel for you to turn it,,,,,,also the parking brake might need to be unhooked to let the shoes move,,,,,,,,
