Starting the suspension after tuning up the body. Custom arms and crossmember planned for a modern stance and powerplant.

I wanted to keep the powerplant chevy however wanted EFI and a modern sized alternator. Settled on the Vortec inline 6 (trailblazer). The van i bought was setup like a gasser with raised springs and coils upfront and a monster Olds V8 under a frankensteined doghouse. The prior build had been done very poorly so the body took alot longer then i expected to get back to show quality including a new roof. The steering will be converted to manual rack and pinion using an Isuzu steering box to transfer the shaft. I am well into the suspension conversion, will post some pics of the progress later. Thanks

Had to remove a fair section of the floor to get to the rails. The last guy forgot to weld the frame rail ends to the front of the body. They are just floating there. That will have to be corrected as well.

motor mounts mocked up. these tabs will weld to the plate bolted to the engine, a second set welds to the inner rail
    IFS under a 65 11207749633_313b232cdd_z

the prior owner had poorly welded plates and used a gratuitous amount of body filler instead of correcting the rust and damage to the rear section. had to replace the rear body panel outright and remake the corners.

I checked on the first gen in the garage and the front skin is not welded to the frame either.
it is welded to the floor and the floor is welded to the frame.

Put some time into this project after a considerable layoff. Cut the floor out. (a little at a time) and replaced the rails. Had to notch the rear rails to accommodate the lower suspension. And make it a tick more narrow to take the IFS front end. Hoping to bead roll the floor panels. 4 link parallel on the rear.

I am truly amazed at some of the talented people on this site! I admire anyone who has the guts to take on such a challenge head on and go where most others dare not. I can't wait to see how this turns out when all is said and done. It's like watching an artist at work! Thanks for bringing us along for the ride with these pics! I call "SHOTGUN!"  Twisted Evil

Thanks for the compliments. I have felt in over my head for most of this project but making progress. The chassis seems to be the easiest part to tackle. I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs on the re-wire.

Exchanging the rails with the body on has been challenging. Today I cut back the front body braces and replaced them. After I do the same to the rear, I can start the rear suspension and PT.

I saw another project on here where the builder used a box from an Isuzu Rodeo to transfer the steering to manual rack. It should hang right on the outside of my new rail
