    I took out my Heavy duty Monroe shocks to paint them and see it is nearly impossible to compress them 1 inch for the instal.
    There must be a trick or a tool. Pls advise

    i jacked up the body put it on jack stands, and let the axel hang down, then put a screw jack between the frame and axel droped it till the shock slid on. worked for me.

    Do you think I need to loosen the U bolts for the springs. Might help,

    I had one off last week, was fooling around trying to use a screwdriver to get it pried up in to place, finally in a moment of frustration with the bolt ready in the shock I just grabbed it and pushed it up into place, didn't really seem that tough once I gave it a good two handed shove.
