Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
I swapped one in from an aerostar. I had to shorten the drivers side 3 inches to center the punkin. iI used a second short axle shaft from the passenger side. This put the tires real close to the springs, so I put 5/16 spacers on each side. I also had to cut off all the mounts because it was a coil spring set-up. I then welded on spring perches for the leafs

Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
Dan N, Thanks for the reply. I had the axle length in question. I am going to measure some axles at the junkyard. Did yours have disc brakes

Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
No, the one I used has drum brakes, but I have done a disc brake conversion on the front axle.

Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
I am looking at front disc conversion also. Got to get this rear issue first as it has internal problems

Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
Check the 90's broncos. I think the width is alot closer. You can get them with disc and limited slip diff!

Heres one for ya= 3 years back- as im building a 64 ranchero also =i found a rear end & front disc brake setup on ebay in va.- was coming out of a Falcon!! I bought all & as i was told & did recieve= it was all from a blazer(chev) disc fronts like s-10 & 10 bolt posi 4:11 setup!! Fit right under the ranchero!! as im usually always a chev type -i loved it as i can use some of my chev wheels!! therefore -look into the widths of all thats avail too .

Re: 8.8 Rear Axle
I plan to use a fox body mustang 8.8 rear in my 63. Plenty of articles (google it) on using ranger axles for the 5 lug conversion? ,just my 2 cents worth.
