Rochester 2G in a first gen... Empty Rochester 2G in a first gen...

So I got tired of the monojet that I've been running on my 250 in my 66. Boils over and is just a shitty designed carb all together. I wanted a 2brl and I didn't want to have to buy an aftermarket manifold to make that happen. Mostly because I'm cheap and I'm a firm believer in taking what ya got and making what you want. So with the help from the machinist at work... I give you the 2G powered 250 that GM should have built.

The linkage still needs some work as its a little hokey. But she runs great with the new carb.

Very cool!! Nice job. I like your "take what ya got and making what you want." It's more fun that way!

Let us know how it performs. This is not a "progressive" 2 bbl, right? We'd all like to know does it boost your power, how it does at the lower speeds, and how's the gas mileage.

Have you posted more info about your van somewhere on our forum? I'm a Sportvan fan.

There is some stiff in my other posts on different threads. I don't get on here too much. I'm hoping for better mileage because of better atomization from the smaller bores in the carb leading to higher air velocity, but that's just my own theory. It def has more power and like the little bit extra Cfm. I'm hoping this carb won't boil over as bad when I park the van after its warmed up. The damn stock exhaust manifold retains so much heat after you shut it down that it turns the doghouse into an oven.

The smelly carb boil-over is due mostly to the fact that our engines are in a box! It's going to get real hot in there when we park after a long drive. The best solution is the Burger Fan:

A must for any early van!

That's true about the carb. But monojets are already notorious for being prone to percolate the fuel.. then add in the fact that its in a van and the problem is really bad.

This is awesome. I was attempting to adapt a 2G using a Trans-Dapt 2bbl-1bbl-adapter but the 2G I have is too big so I switched gears to a potential Carter BBD but this has me re-thinking the 2G! I do have a very competent machine shop close by and a spare intake....

Do you think a cable throttle might be a more feasible solution to the linkage issue?

Yes a cable setup would be better. I was just working with what I had laying around. Sort of the way I do things. Rochester 2Gs came in two different sizes. Large bore and small bore. The earlier small bore is probably what you need for your adapter.

I have an adapter as well but your still choking the carb back down to a one barrel bore at the manifold so a best you only gain a little better carb design. I wanted the full benefits of the 2G.
