Re: What are you up to?
There is a lot more to painting an entire vehicle vs one fender and getting it to turn out decent. Ask me how I know!

I used to own a body shop in the Earlie 80's but now hell they changed every thing ,,, the paint is different the primmer is different the guns are different hell even the filler is different sad thing is they didn't make it easier just more confusing !!!! good thing is it's only paint ,time and money

Re: What are you up to?
I worked in a body shop doing prep in the 80's, things sure are different as you say. I'm using a tp tools turbine and trying to learn the setup on it. My first all over paint job with it came out good (after lots of cut and buff),hope it wasnt just beginners luck.

Re: What are you up to?
picked up my gas tank from the radiator shop today, i don't weather i'm more happy with the great job they did cleaning and coating it or that it wasn't lost or misplaced. can't wait to install it but have a few other projects and need to move the van from side of house to in front of garage. also need to redo the brakes and have decided to go with disc on the front - may be a few $$$ more but worth it in the end, also going to swap out the single for a dual master cylinder which i think will be the hardest part of the project.

Re: What are you up to?
Raining outside and cold to. Might as well be inside doing a little educational reading. picked these up at our local car show for less then 50 bucks....only need three more to complete the set. Unfortunately, these were drank before I acquired the box. Oh well I have the most important piece, and a bottle of Crown in the cupboard in case I get thirsty.

Ok, I'll bite...what is that attached to the bottom of the dash board? Is that top button the ejection seat or to activate the machine guns hidden in the front grill???

Re: What are you up to?
You might have to install some wheelie bars on the back...might get too much lift! But I really LIKE that look! Looks like they're both Ready for Take-Off!

Re: What are you up to?
Just finished the new covered parking/work area for the van. Now I have shade to work in and she's out of the rain!
Lousy picture, sorry, that's what I get for using a cell phone at sunset.
I am going to hang three 4' lights and two directional spot lights next and wire in some 110v plugs.
I can get a ladder all the way around and have tons of space to work above without smacking my head on anything!

Re: What are you up to?
Got my new 235-60-14 BF Goodrich tires mounted on my vintage Rocket 14x7 slots. I spent a bunch of time on them polishing them up. Getting real close to having my 67 back on the road.

Re: What are you up to?
Matt, I like the setup you have now to work on the van. Heck, you don't need it enclosed out in sunny California cause you've got no nasty snow to deal with.
Duane, nice job polishing those rims! They look new!!!

Re: What are you up to?
Thanks Vanny! You're right about no snow, but the sun/heat is a factor here in the summer...and I wanted to finally get her out of the rain in the winter.
And this area will double as a BBQ/get together place in the future. Bonus!

Like that color choice! Let us know how the cut and buff works out. Looks pretty darn good from where I'm sitting!

I was the painter, did it in the garage. It was only my 2nd time painting, found out I'm not a painter. I got a LOT of orange peel and some dry spots. Finished cut today, buff tomorrow. The part I did buff looked good.

Re: What are you up to?
Ran into the dry look on mine. Also Orange. Used a different style gun and didn't have things set right. A day of wet sanding and shooting another coat with the old gun mostly cured it.

Re: What are you up to?
The good 'ol orange peel - is usually due to spray pressure too high, distance from car when spraying or too quick drying reducers!! All = having the paint drying too quickly when applied!! Not enough flow out to smoothe .We've =all had that happen- dont distress - its all a learning process!!

Re: What are you up to?
I'm using a tp tools turbine to paint. Cant figure this damn thing out. My first paint job I used cheap omni paint and it came out good, very little peel but lots of runs, color sanded smooth as glass. I used dcc concept this time and couldnt get it to flow, like drying before it hit the truck. Cut with 1000 grit ,still having trouble getting it complety smooth, not sure I have enough paint to go with 1500 then 2000. I put on 3 coats of paint and just dont have the money to do it again.
