My first gen only has a chain on the doghouse lid, sure they all came that way. Has anyone used a econo lid prop on a chevy????

I took a hood prop from a Pontiac fiero and was gonna use that, it is the same thing that
mid 70`s corvettes use and also used by corvair engine lid prop. kind of ratchets up and
down, no need for two hands. neat idea but never got it put on.

Re: econo prop on a 1st gen
AFTER installing intake gaskets and the right header gaskets this weekend on my VAN and the lid hitting me in the head more than once ( I have a nice dent in my head) after knocking the prop stick down several times. (I have a 2nd GEN dog house). I have 2- 8in gas struts I am going to install. BUT for now I took a throttle return spring hooked to to the roof rib next to the dome light and hooked it on the lid and it holds it all the way up so the struts are on the back burner for now.BUT I like the corvette hood prop idea also I will look into that too since I am trying to find a 80s duel snorkel factory corvette air cleaner also. I will talk to the guys in our local corvette club about 100 cars and see what they can find me......JOE...

Re: econo prop on a 1st gen
I have a 1968 8 cly motor box in my 1966 GMC witch is bigger than the original 6 cly one and the lid hits the roof before it opens all the way so a chain is not a option because the lid will not open all the way to lean back so I will have to come up with a strut or something permanent other than a mop handle that I keep knocking down LOL..chasgas wrote:i simply lengthened the chain... no more dents in head!!

Have you thought about to fabricate and measure up one of those cylinder type props you'd see on a truck topper.
Its would seem simple, and they work good.Just a thought.
