Battery Hold Down and Jack Empty Battery Hold Down and Jack

    Post by busman78 Mon May 06, 2013 7:24 pm

Got a 67 A108 with a near perfect battery box minus the clamp that holds the battery in place, does anybody have a picture of what it looks like, got to have something to do with the two small square holes in the bottom of the box.

Also what type of jack came with these monsters? Did it mount under the drivers seat or with the spare?

    Thanks

I USED A UNIVERSAL HOLD DOWN FROM A PARTS STORE, AS FOR THE JACK YOU NEED A SCISORS JACK AND LIFT IT ONLY UNDER THE AXLES,

Thanks, then there must of been some type of bracket with a weld nut or cage nut that mounted to those two square holes in the bottom of my box which is obviously gone now. Cool I will snag one of those from the wrecking yard.

Here is a topic link on original jacks where I have put some pics of my jack and how it mounted. There are other jacks just in case yours is just a bit different

Why don't you left them from the center of the front axle?

Lifting from the center can bend the axle.

i'm sorry i dont agree with the jack in the center it will bend, it takes a porta power to bend them for alignment, i jack mine up all the time in the center, if it would bend by just jacking it up, i cant emagine how the tires would look after one pot hole, i've been doing alignments on old cars and trucks for years,

if you use a scissors jack you should only lift one side at a time the jacks are not intended for that much waight, and it could slid,

Well I won't jack from the center of an axle even with a floor jack, even the manufacturer does not recommend doing that, there is a lot of weight in the fron. I am aware of how strong they are, just had my 61 Econoline axle straightened, the PO jacked from the center and it was slightly bowed.
