MB, the letters I would really like to do to show the Ford guys how they would look. The side badges, as long as you PREP them I will shoot them.

Also, I am working on chroming a glove box door. I am not sure if you got one of the gauge panels or not but these would make a GREAT addition to that.

These fit the OEM gauges. While cleaning my shop I found 4 more under some stuff and I plan on putting them up for sale soon. OR a gauge panel itself could be re-chromed.



I would like to shoot 5 parts this weekend. If it goes well I will start a SERVICE at an unbeatable rate starting in a couple weeks.

I ask that anyone that is sending parts that I havent talked to on phone or by PM include the shipping amount. I am not trying to make anything on this test run but I already have about $600 invested in materials and building the clean room. Wife isnt real happy with me right now. Lol

I got 2 pieces prepped this weekend, glove box door for a Ford and inner door panel from my 66 van. Sanded, cleaned, base coat done.

I was going to chrome them yesterday but noticed I got DISTILLED water instead of DEIONIZED water for the mixing. So now I need to find a place to get it. I am hoping this can be bought in the same places as the distilled.

i thought leno said distilled.???

The original documentation I got from them states distilled, then when I got the kit and the mixing instructions it states that distilled is not a substitute for deionized.

I am going to use the distilled and see how it looks. Hopefully pictures up in a couple of hours.

FIRST attempt.

So before I post the pictures I want to give history of what I did here.

First off, I did not PRIMER the part. There was kind of crappy paint on this part so I sanded it some to get anything loose off of it then cleaned it with alcohol and after it dried sprayed on the base coat. (which is clear, wasnt expecting that...)

I used the distilled water and I can see what they were talking about the "Yellow Tint". I think it is some cheap off the wall brand. I talked to a couple people and there are a couple off GOOD brands that have no minerals in it at all, that is a must.

I am looking more into a DI system IF I invest in this.

So here are the before and after pictures. Please remember this was done with a HAND PUMP system and not air pressurized. This is ONLY to get a FEEL for if people would be interested.

You can tell from the pictures that all the scratches and dips in the surface really show through. A primer would be a must with a 500-1000 grit wet sand prior to the base coat.

I will also need to finish my clean room with cement floor and sealed walls. Right now I have rock/dirt floor and heavy plastic up for the walls (LoL) with 2 box fans sucking air out the top.

Otherwise it turned out pretty good.

I was also told I need to leave the activator sit in the bottle for an hour so that it blends with the water better or it can bead up, I see the effect of not doing that now, can see the "Orange Peal" effect, this was cause by "Premature E-spray-ation) LoL!

Nice 1st attempt. From working on my van I do know if you can see a defect be fore you paint you will see it after you paint. So primer is very important and so is the sanding. The nicer it looks before you paint will show after . My guess is you will have to chare your customers accordingly. Less work for you is money in their pockets. Would you know if there would be a reaction to any fillers ?? like bondo and differnt primers. And does this material have a cure time??

If you can paint it you can Chrome it is what I was told.

As stated earlier we will need to PRIMER this before putting the base coat on. I think that I will offer this a couple different ways.

1. Ready to Chrome. Which will have the surface complete prepped and ready for me to put base coat on. I will clean it with alcohol and shoot the base.

2. Primer and Chrome. Surface is smoothed and filled but otherwise all it needs is primer then option 1.

3. Full restore. Most expensive since this will take all mine time to sand, fill, smooth, primer, chrome.

Take note I actually have a job so not really liking option three. LoL... It shouldnt be much for someone to buy some sand paper and a rattle can of metal primer to get their parts ready for chroming.

I am NOT a professional body man and dont claim to be so I would prefer not being put on the stop to restore something for someone. I am a decent painter but when it comes to filling and smoothing I leave a lot to be desired.

I thought there was a special primer you had to use?

No it is a base coat you have to use. I know this sounds weird since when you paint something the primer is considered the base coat.

Chroming process is..

1. Their special (clear) base coat. 1 light coat, 1 heavy, 2 medium.

2. Spray on Activator mixed with water 8ML to 10 oz of water.

3. DI water rinse.

4. 2 stage chroming chemicals. A mixed 4 ML to 10 oz of DI water, B 8ML to 10 OZ of DI water.

5. DI Water rinse.

6. Clear coat

Primer would be used to smooth and seal the metal. I also asked if POR15 would work and he said yes it works great but need to scuff it after it cures before chroming since it is so shiny but it works great to seal if there is surface rust.

Matt if something was pitted do they suggest a process so the pitting will not come back?? I watched the Leno vid but nothing was said about this. I'd hate to see you get a bad rap if the pitting or rust would return. Maybe i'm just over thinking this..

Thats why I suggested POR15 or something like it since it is supposed to seal and stop rust. I guess I wont know till after I try it and wait years? I dont know what else to say about it. I guess it is always a game of chance...

I am as new to this as everyone else, just trying to start something that we could all profit from. I am going to sit down and think of some prices to see how much it will cost for materials. As long as I get just a little bit for my time and the shipping and materials are covered that is good enough for me. We are family...

Our biggest customer has been at our facility all week. I put in almost 70 hour this week having to attend meetings plus ensure our people got shipments out the door.

I am still wanting to INVEST in the system instead of trying to prove it will make a smooth product with a hand sprayer. I am a bit nervous about the $2000+ I will need to invest.

On hold at the moment till I find some money in a mattress to pay for it.

I am leaving for North Dakota to see my family this weekend but when I get back I am going to put my PLR 16 up for sale. I dont use it and got plenty of other guns. The money I can get from it will go a long ways to cover my costs.

I really wanted to chrome the Fore Arm and Stock but wont now that I am going to sell it. Loved shooting this, AR 15 pistol.

I have add on fore arm, 5 30 round AR 15 clips,1 10 round clip, 260 rounds of ammo and a custom made case for it. Hoping I can get $1500-2000 for it. The way these are selling now it should go pretty easy, then I can have some spending cash to buy supplies.

I did finish my room, cement floor and sheet rock walls covered in shower board with 4 large suction fans and 2 48 inch 4 bulb lights. I got the plumbing in but still need to figure out a large "Sink" to catch the run off.

Even owning a small bore rifle is very hard and anything automatic "go to jail, directly to jail".

Automatic guns are illegal in the U.S. also. Those are SEMI-automatic. BIG difference. That is where the gun argument gets muddied here. A LOT OF POLITICIANS DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
