Gas pedal install
Does anyone have pics of their cable installation on the gas pedal? I have a 318 with edelbrock four barrel carb. The original rod set up does not allow me to get wide open throttle. What has worked for you guys?

Re: Gas pedal install
hope someonewill chime in on this. Imade my own cable set up and i'm running the 318 with a 600 edelbrock but my set up never let mine open up all the way either, but i've been content with what is there. . what is the restriction on yours ?? out of adjustment or clearance??

Re: Gas pedal install
No more adjustment, I am pretty close to wide open, and the performance is good, just annoying to know it isn't right.

Gas pedal install
AS you know I am having the same problem it is not a adjusting issue I think the 4 barrel carb needs to be pulled back farther than the original 2 barrel did we should be getting some pictures soon ME and Digz are looking forward to it also..NEWS FLASH....comstock-108 has a picture on G van general discussion of the linkage he made.

Re: Gas pedal install
i have owned about 8 a-series vans and my current truck and worked on a bunch more and seen lots more than that. but to date i have not seen, come across, or know of a cable activated throttle linkage. must be a southern u-s thing or those paticular vehicles came out of one specific plant that never shipped to canada.
and all my part and service books do NOT show a cable system...........

Re: Gas pedal install
jkr i did buy a used throtle cable but didn't get all the brackets. I think the bigest problem is the intake and edelbrock 4 brl. carb. I'm sure you already know the 4 brl will need more movment to open up the 4 barrel,

Re: Gas pedal install
I know the lokar setups will have 2 adjustments with enough to make them work properly!!

Re: Gas pedal install
Now that sounds like the ticket. I've never messed with them but you see a lot of them out there...

Re: Gas pedal install
back when i had one of my vans i put a 4bbl on it and had throttle issues. i had to extend the lever under the pedal to obtain more movement at the carb. if you add about an inch and a half it will probably get you enough travel at the carb. you might have to make a new piece at the top with an arch in it to get a bit more as a straight one could bind at wot.

Re: Gas pedal install
I was thinking the same thing, extend the rod on the pedal itself.

Re: Gas pedal install
Go to Lokar and look up the Eliminator Floor Mount throttle pedal. Looks like just the ticket. Don

Re: Gas pedal install
Dont suppose anyone has sussed this yet have they ?
Took the belly pan off my A108 today to take a good look at my Gas pedal set up.
I also have a 318 with an Edelbrock 4brl carb.
The front rod looks original to me, but the elaberate set up bolted to the engine is far from standard.
The pedal action is very stiff, the main rod has a load of sloppy "arc" take up before it actually operates anything, the main rod rubs on the cab floor at half throttle onwards & I am also not getting full throttle at the Carb end.
Surely to get full throttle with the original Gas pedal by using a cable, I will need different length operating rods at either ends to get the ratio right ?
I guess that's right ?
I'll be looking into a solution over the next few days.

Re: Gas pedal install
Sorry so long for a reply to this thread, I added about 1/2 inch to the rod under the floor from the pedal. She opens up all the way and works without binding. My linkage is all original other than that.

Re: Gas pedal install
I used the original linkage too that I modified for more throw. I thought about a cable but found it not necessary. One thing that would have worked well is marine outboard engine steering cable that is push-pull. I used them to operate the transmission from the original shift lever in the column.

Re: Gas pedal install
Well I sorted it.......
Well.........
I got a friend to actually do the job under my idea.
Cable operated 4 Barrel Carb.
First the whole rod set up was removed & a 3 meter aftermarket kit car accelerator cable was ordered from Ebay & shortened about half a meter.
A simple bracket made & bolted to one of the bolts that fixes the original accelerator pedal to the floor.
Then a bracket made from a small piece of angle was shaped & bolted to the carb / manifold.
Simple.
I can only take the credit for the idea.
It was my friend Keith who did all the donkey work.
Many thanks buddy........
I now have a lighter, fully adjustable pedal action & can now actually get full throttle.
