I'm sure Dix can help you out and later if you need some inspiration, check this story out. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/11/its-1000-pm-and-your-van-needs-a-new-gas-pedal-frankenpedal/

Re: Gas Pedals
A while back the rubber pivot joint on mine broke through. I drilled a few holes and sutured it back together with bailing wire and it worked quite well, and still does. Recently (relatively) found a pretty good replacement for it at the wrecking yard. IIRC, that metal was pretty tough to drill through and had me wondering if it was maybe stainless steel. Coulda been a burnt-out drill bit though ...

Re: Gas Pedals
On the a100 gas pedals the steel is coated with rubber. And that is were the problem lies. It's a basic 2 pc. steel hindge . With 40 + years they rust away. remove the pedal and look to see if the piviot / hindge is still intact . if not remove the pin and the rubber on the bottom of the pedal were it would bolt thru the floor . my guess that is were your problem is. That bottom pc. is fairly simple to make.

Re: Gas Pedals
That's a good idea Mr dix. Unfortunately my old pedal broke above the hinge, and now looks like there's a one inch staple on either side of it, so it didn't look too bad when I was running it. O'course, when you duct tape a couple blocks of wood to your gas pedal to bring it into alignment with your brake pedal, a little bailing wire interfering with the aesthetics of your interior motif might not be one of your greater concerns in life.
