Re: 2013 van nats
some heads are hard to crack. the canadian nats allow them. and of course the van nats can't change. they use to bring in 5,000 plus vans. but it is not the 70's any more.

Re: 2013 van nats
Personally I have no opinion on the topic. Whether they are allowed or not does not matter to me....
I think the big issue is if they allow A100 and Econo PU's is that others will then push to allow "all" trucks. Since you allow these. And since it is a "VAN Nationals" and not a Truck Nationals these had to draw the line somewhere.
And as far as G-Man's yellow truck pic posted above. It technically is not a van but a "Panel Truck" but that's whole nother can O' worm's!!!
But like I said, I have no opinion on them. In or Out it really make no difference to me... But if I did. I'd say if the chassis is "VAN" based then it's a Van.... And if the chassis is "TRUCK" based then it's a Truck....
*** Or maybe I could find a 1971 Pinto wagon and sheet metal over the side back windows and take it to NAT's!!!

Re: 2013 van nats
the nats board view the panel truck as a early form of a van that's why thet allow them the panel and the pick up were built in the same time period. the a100 and econo pick up's are not. but the mini vans and hhr's are alloud. dodge does not build a van any more but they sell a sprinter i think is the name. and they are aloud in.

Re: 2013 van nats
As a Vanup owner, I can see the point of the VAN NATS's decision not to allow vanups at the show and I accept that decision.
That is why I started the Northeast Gathering of Earlys, where all are invited.
The fact that the vanup is not a van is one of the reasons I bought it.

Hey Jim- I would definitely be interested in attending this event in one of my Corvairs. Is it happening in 2013 as well? Same location? It is only a little over 2 hours from home for me.

Could someone who has been to this event please describe it for the rest of us. Their website does not explain much. I guess they expect that everyone already knows what is there.

Re: 2013 van nats
i can try. About 680 vans and pannels .from all over the US, and Canada. Food & Ice and van parts venders are there all week some games such as volley ball and horse shoes and such during the day and kid games as well. pets must be on a leach. depending on when you get there shade is avail.and the same with elect. Live bands every nite. the water is drinkable, The restrooms are very well maintained.Showers portajohns as well The security is done by several van clubs. and allways do a good job. but that does not mean every thing is allways safe. there is a lot of room to camp and walk around shopping is allways close for every thing. and they will have maps for what ever you need. it will be hot so plan on that. 1day they will have a local drag strip open for those who want to face . cost extra. they do have a smokey burnout contest. The van show will be held 2 days friday and sat. i beleive. 99.9 percent of these people are great people. BUT there is allways somone who had to much to drink. ar a lose dog running around. they also will have a brite and shine at nite as well. if you brake down some one will help you. 2 years ago a 69 dodge camper broke a axle and had no idea what to do. Or how to fix it . And it was up and running in 2 hours and that is how it is. For the most part,Also there is a curfue for the young kids .all and all it's a well prepaired event. I hope this helps .Any questions don't be afraid to ask.

Re: 2013 van nats
The National Truck-in is the premier van event of the year. Next year will be the 41st year.
The event draws vanner's from all over the US and other countries too.
Basically, it is a huge campout for vanners. There is a huge van show and shine, swap meet, many games, burnout contest, vendors area, bands playing music most nights, raffles, etc.
There are food vendors there. One big party! Plenty to do and look at.

The pinto panel might be allowed into the NAT's, but not a converted wagon.

Re: 2013 van nats
The 40th was my first time. It was the most fun I have had in ages. There is tons to do and see. I got there mid week, Wish I had had the time for the entire thing! Dix nails it. Well organized good time. It's on my "To Be There List" for sure.
I wish I had saved all the photo links. but there are a few tucked away here somewhere I'm sure.

The registration form has a check box for "I plan to enter the Show and Shine." What is that?

That is if you wish to be in the Show, You will be Classed at some time then Judged against other vans that are in your Class by a select bunch of vanners. It puts your van out there for everyone to see also. To me it was a fun thing to do. It's also sort of a learning experience. Personally I think if your there Participate !!

Classifying for the 40th was supposed to be done the day before the Friday show. Fortunately they classified mine on Friday morning. Van sat there for some time thinking it was going to be the only "Early Dodge" there.
Get you van in there regardless of condition. Everyone will appreciate your van. Someone will point out something interesting about your van that you didn't know about. Most will have a story or two to tell you.
An awesome weekend for sure!

When we arrived last year, I was amazed at all the portable wading pools throughout the camp sites. Turns out, a lot of folks just sit in them most of the day sipping frozen cocktails.
