When I start my Eco, the starter will not kick out. I have changed starter, ignition & solenoid. Checked voltage thru solenoid with starter dis-connected. Worked fine. What is going on?

You need to 1st see if it is mechanical or electrical,,,,,maybe replace the cable from the relay to the starter with a jumper cable temporarily,,,so that if the starter sticks, you can disconnect the electricity to it,,,,,,and,,,,if that starter stays stuck,,,,it is probably the ring gear or wrong starter,,,,,

Thanx Much! I'll try that. Where is the ring gear? In case that you could not tell, I am not a mechanic.

[i 1st !! disconnect battery!! - 2nd. =remove complete starter. 3rd - look @ the spring under the starter drive gear? may be weak or broken - the bendix gear can usually be replaced & comes with a new spring - clean the starter shaft - lube with a LIGHT!! coat of grease & install the new parts
take to an auto parts & have them test it ?? Good luck

We like talking about everything on old vans, so ask any questions you like,,,,,,,but on your starter, we need to narrow down the possibilities,,,,,and since both starters you tried act the same way, the starter is probably not the problem,,,,,,thats why we need to check and see is it electricity that is telling the starter to keep going or is it just stuck to the teeth on the flywheel and can't escape,,,,,,,but see what happens when you unhook the cable going to the starter when it is stuck,,,,,,that will tell us where to start checking things next,,,,,,,did this just start acting this way,,,,,did you do anything or change anything right before the problem started?

I guess another way would be to disconnect the starter cable at the relay or at the starter and just hold it on while you start the engine,,,,,then if the starter sticks, pull the cable away from the relay or starter and see if the starter shuts off,,,,but there sure is a lot of juice going through that cable so it may spark or get hot while you are cranking the engine, but see if anything changes while you run this test......

The old starter stopped working. I took to O Reillys & got it tested. The sparks were aflyin'. Bought the new starter & put it on. I thought that it was the ignition because the starter would not stop. New ignition. Still wouldn't stop. I thought maybe silenoid. New silenoid. Nope, no stopee!. Did not even think about a bad gear or twisted starter. I will start on it again tomorrow. Thanx much for all of the help. We'll figger it out yet.

OK, I think that I fixed it. I swapped the small wires on the solenoid & now the starter works correctly. My Eco manual has the colors reversed? Shocked Thanx for all the info & help. Now for my seat supports?
