Hey guys I have a shot at getting a 65 for a good deAL ITS NOT RUNNING.
    i HAVE TWO QUESTIONS.

1 SHIPPING FROM LAS VEGAS TO NASSACHUSETTS 1800 IS A LITTLE STEEP. ANY SUGGESTIONS TO GET THAT PRICE DOWN.

2 IT HAS AN AUTO TRANNY ,BUT i WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT A 4 SPEED AUTO WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH THAT.

    THANKS GUYS

    1) how much would a desert rust free early sell for in Massachusetts? All of a sudden, $1800 to ship doesn't sound so bad.

    2) if it's an auto, it's a fairly straightforward swap to install a 200R4 trans, just need to make a rear support for the trans.

Well, a van in Las Vegas is likely to have a lot less rust than one in Massachusetts, so that was an assumption on my part.

I am looking to spend $400 in gas and another couple hundred in hotels and meals to bring a van from Alabama to Michigan- that's using my own vehicle to tow it and that is 1/3 the distance you are talking about. So, if you did the trip yourself, it's at least a week off work, 2300 miles one way, hotels, meals, and 2 oil changes. Assuming you have a tow vehicle capable of 15mpg and an average gas cost of $4/gal, that's $1226 in gas alone.

Not trying to wizz in your wheaties, just trying to be realistic. Cross country transport is expensive.

You might be able to negotiate a lower rate if the carrier has other deliveries along the route. Whether or not this is an option depends on how long the seller is willing to hold it before shipping.

$900 is damn good for cross country, as you can see your gas cost alone is more than that.

Must have put fresh batteries in his calculator.

I wish you luck in getting that van home. There wasn't anything decent and affordable near me so I may end up toting this home from Alabama.

    Hey Vanner68,

What range are you thinking, and what type of van would you like?

1st. Gen, 2nd. Gen? Windows, No Windows?

    Is Texas to far?

I paid $950 from Seattle to Alabama. Took almost a month to get here however. When they can stop and pick up/drop off other loads you can get a much better price.

Finding a broker helps. Since the vans are so tall it can go on a car carrier, that ups the price. Wish I still had the guys name that hauled mine but that was well over a year ago.

He's not picky, but the bottom line is he makes just a little more than minimum wage, and has an apartment he has to come with rent money for. Something basically sound, the more complete the better.

If the windshield frame wasn't toast on the 67, I would be making arrangements to bring it home. Replacing a windshield frame is something I do not want do again, only reason I did it on my 68 is because that was my first van.

Texasisn't too far for me, but it would take time for me to get there. I just happened to be in Alabama for work.

I saw that Econoline- I'd wager he thinks he's got a retirement bank account there if what you told me is true.

As far as the Corvairs go- for me they would be cool, and there's even a real nice one near me for fairly cheap, but I know he can't afford to keep one on the road. It would be his daily driver and parts are not very cheap.
