From what limited information I could find, the th200 was a weaker version of the th350. Does not have an overdrive. It was cheaper to produce than the th350 but could handle less torque, intended for low torque, low weight cars. GM put these in the budget sedans, economy cars and s10 trucks starting in the late 70's thru the 80's. The th200 did not have a very good reputation when they first came out. Improvements were made over the subsequent years, and the later th200's were better than the earlier ones. The th200 transmission design became the basis for the 200-4r, which has an overdrive.
The th200 was available is either chevy or BOP bolt patterns, whereas the 200-4r was universal and fit both chevy and BOP.
This except from November 2002 Car Craft magazine shows the TH200 and th200-4r to be the same length. It also has useful information about how to identify various GM auto transmissions.
http://www.maliburacing.com/auto_tranny_id.htmThe th200 would be ok for a stock 6 cyl (but probably not a 292) or a stock small displacement v8 (such as a 273 or 301), but anything performance will smoke it.
