Just like the objective Gov.....There were options. Myself, I chose to (get mirrors that worked) against original design because there was now way I could afford to re-chrome stock mirrors.

Re: The Surfing Guy's 65
What tuner did you get and how is mounted? Was your dash pretty clean to start with or cut up? I'm saving my pennies for one of those new fangled MP3 ready retro/replica radios.

Those are pretty trick! I got a Sony (can't remember the model) but it has USB for MP3s, accessory input for plugging in an ipod or in my case my Android. It also features a Pandora integration feature, so I can change the stations on my Droid from the tuner...though I have not tried it yet. There was already a system in there, so it was already cut to the right size. All I had do was to remove the old sleeve and replace it with mine, insert the stereo, hook up all the wires from the harness plug (the speakers, ground, and power) and plug it in. It was pretty turnkey. If you need some help installing yours, I could lend a hand!
BTW, I took my rig for the first time with tunes and it ran like a top! I can not believe that I am actually cruising that thing worry-free and I am diggin it! If you read this whole thread...Thanks Don!

Re: The Surfing Guy's 65
Adding a scoop to the bellypan seems to be something that people do to their vans,,,,,,,we can probably make a deal for it,,,,,it might just double your vans value........

Is that to allow the motor to run cooler?

1st Gen, 1964-66 Chevy/GMC vans have the worst cooling systems ever invented,,,,,,the grille is a joke,,,,the air just hits the bottom of the floor,,,,,so they put a bellypan under it with deflectors to divert the air under the truck up to the radiator,,,ONLY,,,,if you are moving,,,,,

The Burger Fan™
The Burger Fan™ is Don's best invention! He's right, every early van needs one.
If you've got a radiator with a new core and a belly pan, your engine will stay cool while it's moving. But if you're in bumper-to-bumper mode, an electric fan will save the day.
But to me, the best feature of the burger fan has nothing to do with driving. It's for when you park it after driving! I'm sure you all know that nasty hot engine smell that permeates the interior after you park. I had to put up with that all the time when I was camping in my van, traveling around the country. Don told me it's the gasoline in the carb percolating from all the heat trapped in the doghouse.
I've eaten many a burger (or chili dog) sitting in Don's van and we have no such smell because he just turns on the burger fan! It keeps a flow of cool, fresh air moving through the doghouse. Doesn't need to be a high-powered, noisy fan for this. The other brainstorm is he has one of those timer switches you'd have in a bathroom to run the ceiling fan for a while, mounted under the dash! Brilliant. He turns it on most every time he parks so he can return to a fresh-smelling van! I'm sure the engine and its components are happier for it too.

Re: The Surfing Guy's 65
Here I was afraid to ask the question because I thought, Geez, how come I've never heard of a hamburger fan? I even googled it to see if I could find it. LOL So, now we have the Burger Fan and the Donimow! Is there no end to this man's genius when it comes to these old vans? I doubt it!

The chili-cheesedog fan is located between the drivers wheel well and doghouse to vacate any other type of offending fuel related odor. Not to judge.
