They are made for 61-65 Corvairs, but fit our pedals like a glove...no excessive force needed. There is an opening on the bottom side that allow them to slide on from one direction and then you fold the lip over the other side of the pedal.

    Poor Scott,
I'd have probably done the same thing! Real subtle there Don! There's that learning curve again. Like you said Don, he's gonna know his truck inside out by the time he's done. At least he's got some nice shiny mirrors to add and you saved the rest of the van from going up in flames. Give yourself a pat-on-the-back!

I tell you how it is,,,,,,and I put this stuff up to entertain you,,,,and show how things are done,,,,,and in this case,,,,,the fuel gauge and wiper switch use the same type connectors,,,,,and the the fuel gauge is a positive while the wiper switch is a negative circuit,,,,so Scott plugged the positive circuit into the negative wiper switch which,,,,in our vans, is an unfused circuit,,,,the ignition circuit,,,,so it cooked the feed wire in the fuel gauge wiring loom,,,,,so 1st thing I do is say Scott, look at the color schematic that VanAgain gave you and tell me what colors are SUPPOSED go to the fuel gauge,,,they should be Tan and Pink,,,,,so I reach up and unplug the fuel gauge and the wires aint Tan and Pink,,,,,,the fuel gauge did not mind having the wrong wires on it, but that wiper switch, which was stuck on,,,,,really HATED having those fuel gauge wires on it,,,,,but its all fixed,,,,,,he can finish wrapping up the wires and putting the seats in it and lets go out and meet the World......

So, what you're saying is, read the diagram before making the connections and then double check it once you've made the connection to be sure you got it right. Sometimes when you've got a spaghetti western going on like in that photo Scott posted, it can get a bit confusing as to which direction the wires are going. I not only find your posts entertaining but all kidding aside, I'm learning a lot as I watch your progress on this van and the many others you assist with. I joke around but want you to know that I really appreciate the efforts you make to teach as you progress. Oh, the other lesson is always have a fire extinguisher close by for just this type of emergency!

Well, just so this thing does not get too blown out of proportion...there were no flames...just smoke affraid!!!

And as a mentor, a Governor and a friend, Don should have told me to be careful and not get the wires crossed What a Face. How was I to know that when he said plug in all the connectors, that just because I found a "fit", didn't mean that it was the right fit! Lesson learned and I guess I need to ask the right questions.

Anyways, got all the wiring tightened up in looming...
    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 22 2013-030

AND more exciting than that, I got to put the doghouse lid back on! Man, it's been many a moon since that thing has been on!

Scott should get an award for showing you how easy it is to burn up your van,,,,,theres 2 connectors, right next to each other,,,,they look the same,,,,but put them on the wrong terminals,,,and the van catches on fire,,,,,EASY to do,,,,,you just can't think of everything,,,,,but I bet you remember this post when you pull the dash out of your vehicle,,,,,and that the point of all this drama,,,,this is good information,,,,,,you won't find that in your shop manuals,,,,,so cheer up Scott,,,,,you probably kept someone from messing up their van,,,,,,,

Lesson learned and we have all done it. Trust me, that smoke is impossible to get back into the wire. Laughing

Thanks for the heads up Don and scot. I have a couple of plugs that are disconected and wasn't sure if they go together or not. Went by coloring of the wires and even with that I found one that someone had replacesd the wire with a new one and a different color. Suddenly I don't feel so well. Like we did on this van, one wire at a time,,,,,we sent power from the battery to the fuse box,,,,,then to the ignition switch,,,,then another color from the ignition switch to the fuse box for the accessories and back to the coil,,,,,then another color from the ignition switch to the starter....thats the main circuits,,,,,cut off the old wires and what you got left is the accessories,,,,,and they just go from the fuse box, to a switch and then to the equipment,,,,,and put a REAL fuse box in that Ford!!!!

Good idea about the fuse box. Definitely putting in a nice one with relays as well for the electric fan. Did you guys put a new fuse box in scotty's van or use what was already there? And if so do you have any pics as to where it is put in the van for ease of accessibility?

The old box is still there,,,,,there aint many fuses in it,,,,,I just replaced the 3 main circuits for now,,,,power in,,ignition out and starter out,,,,(that ignition out is the hardest,,,,,it splits off to feed like 8 different circuits before it gets to the ignition coil),,,,,and used a heavier gauge for them,,,,,those old glass fuse clips and terminals are not very good,,,,I am liking these universal spade fuse boxes,,,,you need 2 fuse boxes in a vehicle,,,,one where the fuses are hot all the time,,,,the other that only get hot when you turn the key on,,,,and with these, you hook battery to one, a wire from the ignition switch to the other,,,,then run the feed wire from one fuse terminal to each switch or piece of equipment you want to protect,,,,,and put them where you want,,,some people put them in a box behind the drivers seat,,,,it don't matter,,,,you really don't ever have to mess with it once you got all your systems working right,,,,it does not have to be easy to get to,,,,,
