Not that I use the stock air cleaners but it looks like that one would allow more air through. Also mine don't have the thermovac on the snorkel to pull in preheated air.

,,,,about that air cleaner,,,,our air filters are about 1 inch high, while that air cleaner is 2 inches deep,,,so it definitely is letting in more air,,,,all air, no filtering,,,,,

Where can I find the right one?

This is the real system,,,,the valve cover has a tube with a spark arrester in it,,,,,these show up for sale ever so often,,,,,you got some of the parts,,,,you might be able to find an air filter to fit that air cleaner you have,,,,,,or make a spacer so that filter actually filters the air,,,,

I will have a proper air cleaner for you as soon as I get my engine swap settled.

Don, what is involved in removing the tube and hardware coming out the side of the valve cover? Is it simple once the cover is removed? I tried to look through the top hole with the cap removed but couldn't see much.

It is the same set up as the PCV valve,,,,,a rubber grommet goes in the hole in the side of the valve cover then the pipe is pushed in,,,,,however,,,that grommet could be pretty hard by now and you might have to get mean to pull the fresh air tube out of it,,,,,,

Donivan the van is running a lot cooler now...thanks! I remember that you adjusted the idle a little bit, but now it seems a little too low. I have not yet tightened the carb screws, but do you think that will help this or does it just need to be cranked back up just a hair? Thanks...

Crank that screw in more to raise the idle up,,,,,after you tighten the screws, then the RPM and mixture screws will be adjusted again,,,,but you can adjust the idle to whatever feels right to you,,,,,

The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 2 Empty Getting There...

    Post by the_surfing_guy Tue Sep 18, 2012 6:19 pm

The lid has been tacked on and needs quite a bit of welding, but it is getting there!

Interestingly though, the "new" lid did not fit my van perfectly. Due to the extra windows (small ones in front on either side) the sizing of those particular panels were different between vans. Just in case you plan on doin the same thing...now ya know.

So where did you run into trouble? Was the panel roof the same size as the front and back and sides of your old roof? My B pillar is 9 inches between the front and side door,,,,,is that where your triangle window frame does not fit correctly? How does the rust around the windshield look?

Looking good!! I'm still amazed you undertook this, too bad I just missed meeting you in El Cajon the other day. I looked at that van three or four times and wanted to get it really bad as I was not finding a window van anywhere near me for a long time.

That is what I have been told. I was also told that you would have been disappointed when you found out how much I got it for. However, obviously it needed lots of love ($$$). As soon as it gets out of prison, we can meet up somewhere and ride!
