Front Shock Mounts: What NOT to do Empty Front Shock Mounts: What NOT to do

I put new over arched springs on my van in the beginning of the re-do and the shocks were maxed out reaching the mounts so I had this brilliant idea.

After beating them to death on my potholed road for a year It ended up cracking the sheet metal on the side of the wheel well. If I had had the ambition to actually attach them to the existing mounts ,it may not have happened. The springs have settled in enough that I moved them back to the original mounting points today. The cracked sheet metal made a sound crossed between an obnoxious person clicking thier fingernails to a full blown chalkboard screech. Anyways it's quiet now. Just an FYI for a dumb idea !
