I am in the process of fixing the remainder of the damage from the nose hit prior to my purchase of my 62 econoline truck. The passenger side hinge pillar took a slight hit and was pushed back slightly and is causing the seal to flange surface to be out of whack a little. Anyone have measurements for door opening and factory recommended gaps and such around the doors.

Re: measurements for bodywork.
Is this info by chance available in the body book for the 62 model year econoline book. I kinda need it for the coming weekend since i will have more time to straighten things out again.

Re: measurements for bodywork.
that is a tough area to get a good measurement on. i tried a while back and got some help from Thundervan over the phone as we worked out reference points. the problem is where to take the measurement from.
is your driver's side column ok? if so you have the best reference right there.

Yeah Nathan
I agree with CL
Use the driver door as a reference.
One nice things about the Econos is their symmetry,,
driver/passenger doors..same
side doors/rear doors...same

Re: measurements for bodywork.
The drivers door is not perfect either i think it has shifted things slightly side to side. As soon as i get time again i will keep working at it. Hopefully things will come around on it soon so i can get the floors back in it and continue to work on the rest of the small things needed and then move onto final body prep.

Re: measurements for bodywork.
when i am doing a resto at work, i tend to use a paint stick as a reference for door gap. sometimes, that is a little small on muscle cars, but eco's should be okay with that. i will check the gap on my van when i get home and let you know.

That works for me. I have some adjusting to still do on the passenger door. The drivers door is close.

Here is a link to the 1961 Econoline Body Service Technician book. (page 16) They use paper to check the clearance for the weather stripping, but say nothing about the door to body distance.

Re: measurements for bodywork.
The gaps on these things are horrendous, lets face it they were not a huge dollar vehicle and were not known for good gaps at all. You are going to have to move things around to get decent gaps even on a econo that has never been hit.
