strange rear door handle

got a nice rear/side door handle for me van in the mail and it looks like mine but has two problems, the shaft is to short wont go into the latch and the mounting part has a notch in the top of it not sure what for, looks like a water drain but on top

could this be for some other ford not a van?
anyone ever extend the shafts?

A picture might help. I'm struggling to imagine what you are describing. Sounds like the wrong handle or yours is hacked.

but i bought some square stock today and i am going to extend the shaft and use my handle bezel
