Any tips on doing a cold adjustment. Just put the engine back together after getting the head and block done. Slantsix.org says to add .002, and modify an old dist cap to see where the rotor is pointing and do 1-5-3-6-2-4 while rotating the engine clockwise.

Re: Valve adjustment on /6?
I do mine cold, with the extra .002 and i've never had a problem. I just keep turning the engine over and i watch the valves, then adjust as needed. Doing it with the engine hot and running just sounds like a messy pain in the azz.

After all the cleaning and painting the last thing I want is oil running down the side. I ran through it 5 times before they all stayed at the right measurement.

Re: Valve adjustment on /6?
at the dealer where i worked we sacrificed an old valve cover, sliced it down the center and just peeled it back. it had a gasket glued to the cover and just add a couple bolts to hold it in place. as long as you don't spin the engine to high the oil dosen't slop much and it can be done while running hot. simple little job

I guess i just don't see the need to adjust a solid lifter running.
