Re: Speedo adapter part?
nothing. it attaches the same. i would pull the speedo drive out to check gears, they are color coded so no need to count. once you drive it and verify actual speed, just order gear to correct speedo.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
This transmission was put in by the previous owner, not me. He told me it was a 700r4. Here's what i'm looking at.
It looks like an electrical connection to me. Is this really a 4L60 trans?

Re: Speedo adapter part?
That is a newer transmission with an electronic speedometer,,,,,that stuff comes out and you put gears in there for the cable,,,,,,now that transmission might still be wired to be run by a computer,,,,,

Re: Speedo adapter part?
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/speedometer_calibration_______va.htm the gears and housing are available here. you might have the gear in there, if not, you need to pull of tail housing to install. click on 700r4 and they have a good pic of what you have/or need. with the housings being $72.00, you might want to get housing and gear from junkyard and replace with new gear later. if you need inside gear, dont forget the spring clip.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
I think that the plug in is for the over drive.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
I have a transmission just like it that I took out of a 90's model silverado. I think that you can buy the parts to use your speedo & cable from summit racing atleast that's what one of my buddies told me. I had the plug that plugged into the plugin but I gave it away to a buddy that was building a hot rod coupe. If I would of knew that I would of wound up with the trans back I would of kept it though.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
So do you think its not working correctly? There is no electrical what so ever going to it. It shifts fine, although i feel at too low of speeds (first into second is at like 15mph). And if I have the digital gear does that make it a 4L60?

Re: Speedo adapter part?
no, digital speedometer. take it out, 1 bolt and put in cable speedo. it will take more time getting the parts than it will to put in.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
Yep. But like i said, it shifts through 4 gears. I listen/feel for it almost every time i drive it.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
Overdrive should be the first gear it takes after neutral & drive will be the next gear. Overdrive will be 4 gears & drive will be 3 gears. If you drive it around town in overdrive it will mess up the overdrive eventually. Atleast that's what my local transmission shop told me.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
Mine says "0CCM142B"
Found this post elsewhere on the web.
"I've got another ident question, here's the tranny number
8 yn m 13 h
I found out the
8 is 1998
YN is model....but what model is my question????
M is 700r4
13 is the day
H is the shift (2nd)"
So, mine would be (0)1990, (CC)model??, (M)700r4, (142) 142 day of the year, (B) which ever shift.

Re: Speedo adapter part?
We just went over this whole subject on VCVC
http://www.vcvc.org/showthread.php?19304-700r4-swap-collecting-parts
Your trans is not a 4L60, It is a 700R4 which is a four speed with a lock up torque converter. It can be run without the TCC opperating but you are loosing the highest fuel economy benafit without it.
If your trans upshifts too fast it more likely the way you have the TV cable rigged at the carb. Or it could be that the TCC is trying to be locked all the time but this is very unlikely if its not electricaly connected.
Being a 1990 trans the TCC used to be turned off and on by a computer but its not all that complicated as it sounds because the computer was just a glorified on/off switch.
