Trust this finds you well with all that entails....

About to close a deal on a '66 flat window, that has had the windows removed like a panel. Right now it is in Homer about 500 miles South of me, and am waiting for the thaw to get it out and on the road. Little rust on the roof line I'm told but not much elsewhere. The guy tells me it has a rebuilt 283 with 2 barrel carb... and has been painted and the back has been built for camping. I'm looking for something to cart my vintage Brit bike collection around so I'm also trolling for advice on suspension and tires... that is I'd like it to sit up higher in the rear and maybe wider tires. I'm told it needs nothing, that this baby has been up and down the Alcan and get's the job done. I'm pumped, as I've been looking for an Econoline or A-100 for years but most up here in Alska have been rusted into too much money.

So, what do you guys think? Traded 2 bear guns for it, so about $1.5k ! I'm basing my value on the rebuild and the coolness factor. Guy told me he has $5k in the rebuild and various misc...

Ooops, not allowing me to post foto..

So, can you tell by looking at it that it probably has stock suspension? Looks a bit saggy... I would like to make it into a mag wheel rod with maybe roof rack for kayak or those wings I've seen on some vans. May is break-up, although the roads are clear. I have still got 6 feet of snow in my yard and apparently the van is covered up to the roof. Still in the teens at night so, well you want a slow melt or the mud becomes a problem. Salmon runs start late May near Homer so I intend to hop a ride and drive it back. Guy says it has a custom rear bumper and hitch, so possibly I could drive and drag my Sube back but I don't want to strain said van.

Brilliant! That looks like a good match for a flat window with a rebuilt ticker. Paint is rough but I'm thinking I should get the suspension modernized to fling forward safetly. How about wider tires without adding flairs? Rockstar rims, with a black POR undercoating might be a nice patina..

I'm liking that spare tire placement. How'd you do that?

I got tired of tripping over that spare inside or banging into stuff on the rear door so I ran a carriage bolt down from the inside and hung the tire above the rear end,,,,,because my van is raised up,,,,,,and every 5 years or so if I get a flat I would have to remove the rear u joint bolts to get that full sized 15" tire out from there,,,,,
