    could anyone tell me the easiest way to tell a 170 from a 225 i have pics in my gallery thanks guys,dave Question

    if i remember well its the lenght of the hose in the front of the engine, you should go to allpars to search for the exact lenght..my guest..corrosive

    Look for the small water line from the head to the block. If it's short (1 inch or so), it's a 170. If it's longer (2+ inches), it's a 225.

    If you come back with the block casting number, you can get more info too. I have the info somewhere and can look it up if needed.

    will do thanks man,dave somebody told me if the valve cover was ribbed its a 170 if smoothe 225 ill take pics of that hose to

    Valve covers interchange, so that's not a good indication.
    The bypass hose is the quick, sure way.
    Check out slantsix.org for lots of great info.

    Rod is right, i did change my cover for an ribbed old looking one, fits perfect(1966-1979), so not a good hint.

    well i forgot to get the nmbr but that water pump hose is about a inch 2 clamps on it bout cover the hose that one would suck to change along side the road so i got a 170 cool got her rubnning this weekend after i rebuilt carb she purrrs thanks guys,dave
