btw, I looked kombi up. it refers to the fact that it can haul cargo and passengers (short for combination). while it often a reference to vw it’s not exclusive to that brand but more to the type.

Yes but the Writer was referring to a VW cause they stated that they had been started being made in the 50's. I would bet that the writer didn't know anything about vintage vans of any manufacturer,ale model or year. They probaly drive a Prius.

Station wagons are referred to as Kombis (or Combis in German) as well as vans. Whenever I hear the term Kombi I immediatly think of a station wagon or van, not a VW bus.

The van in the pictures is a Ford Falcon van. I think back when it was made it was made in the USA.
