Re: How Did You Wind Up With Your Van?
OVER 20 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT A MOTORCYCLE IN TOWN FOR $400.00 AND FIXED IT UP AND USED IT ON AND OFF AS A DRIVER. A FEW YEARS LATER IT WAS BACKED INTO IN A PARKING LOT AND THEIR INSURANCE PAID ME $1200.00 FOR THE DAMAGE AND I HAD THE PARTS AND KNOW HOW TO REPAIR IT FOR ONLY $200.00. THE '65 SUPERVAN WAS ON CRAIGS LIST THIS PAST SUMMER WITH A PRICE -OR- TRADE FOR MOTORCYCLE. I TRADED THIS MOTORCYCLE THAT COST ME NOTHING FOR THE VAN STRAIGHT UP.

Re: How Did You Wind Up With Your Van?
I had never even seen an Econoline before, and knew nothing about these American vans of any type, but my wife and i decided that we wanted a camper van.
A few of my friends have VW campers, but i detest them so i said OK, as long as its not a VW.
A few months later, i was browsing the classic car section on Ebay UK, when i came across a Ford Falcon Econoline for sale a few hours drive away. I had never seen one before and thought it looked quite cool. So we took £4000 in cash with us and went to have a look at it. It was the coolest thing i had ever seen, and i fell in love with it straight away, but it was really rotten, as it had been in the UK for a long time.
I owned a 1970 Mustang fastback with a 460 in it at the time. This went up for sale and i started looking for an Econoline. I eventually found a rust free one for sale in California on Ebay, and bought it without even seeing it.
It took months to get it shipped over here to the UK, and cost about $6000 to do it, but it was so worth it.....!!!

Re: How Did You Wind Up With Your Van?
Back in 2008/2009 I sat watching my 401k and IRA take a huge hit. Geez, I had always wanted to own an old car but had always done the "right thing" and saved my $$.
I then figured that if I had spent it on a car, I'd still have the car, but instead had lost a ton in the market. Screw that!
Started looking for a domestic '60s car under $4500. Falcons, Corvairs, cheap mustangs..that kind of thing. Saw this ad for the travel wagon in CT and conversed with the owner once or twice...kept looking, couldn't find anything I liked but kept finding myself checking to see if the Twagon was still for sale. Cool truck, 13 windows and a pop up top! Wonder if it is still for sale...yup..nah, it's weird...kept looking....couple weeks...still for sale? yup...
my GF finally told me to buy it already and it has been great ever since. I told her later what a great decision I made and she slugged me. lol.
