Re: Lazarusvan's 1964 Chevy G-10
Found some not so good interesting stuff when trying to make my passenger window and door work properly.
This photo shows interior of door where rust appears to have been cut at some point.
Next photos show a more concerning issue in that interior door surface rust has fallen down and combined with the other surface rust and made a pile at the bottom. Photo is taken where the add on plastic vent cover is normally.
It is now a wet "mush" that is a breeding ground for more rust. It is very wet and is certainly going to eat through the metal if it sits long enough. Second photo shows the pile at the bottom.

rusted doors inside
clean out the pile in bottom - there should be some small vent holes in botto of each door- usually on most near the seam of door skin?? yet look at bottom of door. Clean those out = and wash all inside the door to get all out & open & when dry vac to remove big pieces. you van also sand & use some primar or rust coating inside that area thats rusted. I do know from experiences - many manuf's in the 30-50's used a actual Tar coating inside doors & body panels for noise & rust protection- way before we had spray on chemicals to prevent.

I think pretty much everybody's doors look at least that bad. Good for you for taking the time to fix it. This is a very common problem for these vans.

Thanks, PH. Previous owner said they are fine, but I was really concerned when I started looking closely, particuarly because I've seen dry rot in the tread on other vehicles, but not on the side walls. Not really looking to drop at least $500 on tires this second..I'm getting really close to having to park this for a while.
