    Salvage Playgrond Empty Salvage Playgrond

Post by Wrong Way Sat Oct 29, 2011 5:48 am

I was at the playground yesterday getting a turn signal lens for my truck (damn deer) and as I was walking by the crusher and saw the big fork lift picking up a 1969 window van getting ready to send it to its grave. I yelled at the guy, and after a short time of trying to translate, I got him to put it to the side. This van has a lot of parts. I spent the day stripping parts and will be going back Monday to try and get some of the bigger ones. What I have got so far> 4 pop out windows, original radio (works) and antenna (complete), dash cluster (great shape), front door glass with vent windows, rock guard, battery door and rack, radiator & shroud, turn signal lenses and a few other small parts. It has a small block 283? auto trans and a 12 bolt rear with 6 lug axle's (don't know if it is posi). The body is in bad shape.

    Does anyone need anything?

Hey Dennis I would be interested in a pair of pop out windows. Also if there is a auto column somebody here is going to want that. Trans mount? another hot item Bob

Out of the four windows two are in great shape and I'm sure you know where they are going. The other two have a little rust around the bottom part of the frame but you are more than welcome to them.

Would they want the steering column with the steering box? I will get it all if you think somebody would want it.

The rear trans mount is gold! I have been doing some reading here about changing over to auto with a V8 and have read about the make shift trans mounts. I will be keeping this. I also want the engine bracket and mounts. Plus the twelve bolt rear.

    Dennis,
If the plastic defroster outlet vents that sit on the dash are good I need both.
    Thanks Eagle1

Hi, Dennis. Great job on the "pet rescue" at the playground. I need this part right here. Not sure of the name, but it's on the passenger door. I'll take both sides if in good shape. I assume it's the same part for first and second gen since doors fit both vans. Thanks, Lee

Yep, Those are an "Add-on" for sure. But considering what those vents are for it's actually a very good idea!!

Lee, If you want to replace them I would hit the JY and start checking out 1980's full size vans and trucks, bet you could find a set!! I'm heading out tomorrow and will check a few if I have time to see if I can figure out what they came from...

Funny thing is those have "Directional fins" indicating these are a defrost vent cap...

Digz, I doubt it. It's plastic and seems to small. Glad my "rat rod" mod could provide discussion Razz I can envision them being metal and chromed out.

Since it's being discussed, is this normally just a hole?

Stock doors don't have any opening there, just sheetmetal. Someone must have added those to your doors. Good idea to help keep the inside of the doors dry.

OK to settle the issue of the vent, They are not on the vans...the were, on the other hand, put in later models (trucks, vans, cars) (usually stamped metal vents) to ventilate the doors from moisture. Done...

I could easily make you a nice polished Aluminum set. Wouldn't rust and they would have a mirror finish. I could even make the cut outs in the shape of the Chevy boetie if you wanted.

Something like this. The Bow Tie could be smaller with more of them or anything really. I have .025 and .063 thickness 6061 Aluminum. The polished finish is amazing.

Great idea for venting doors. There was a certain year and after that the had to have a one way flap to keep loose fuel from moving forward at impact. Don't think it would make any difference our our tank are in the rear undercarriage.

Thanks much for rescue on that van. I don't need anything right now but anytime we save an oldie, even just parts, a bell rings in van heaven.

    Thanks again, Mark
