Front parking light question on a 65 Empty Front parking light question on a 65

Post by NipRing Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:43 pm

I just got my 65 this week. I like to ride around with my parking lights on for "safety". Wink . But I noticed when I pull the light switch all the way out to turn on the headlights, the parking lights go out and only work as blinkers. Is this normal?
    Thanks

Yes there is a topic on here somewhere that shows how to rewire to have parking lamps stay on when lights are on.

DONOVAN has a drawing as to how it is done. Just placing parking light wire on a different post on light switch. I did mine that way , but can't recall whitch post it goes on.

So the way it is now is normal? Ok, then I'm going to change it to stay on.
    Thanks for the info.

Those lights are parking lights,,,,,if you want to change them to driving lights, unclip that terminal with the 2 purple wires at the 12 oclock position and clip it into the empty spot at the 6 oclock position in my picture,,,,,

Hey Does anyone no if this is the same on the fords? Mine only work as parking lights as well, and not when head lights are on. I thought I broke a wire some where when changing out a bad front socket when I unplugged it from the wiring harness.

I know I have a long way to go when I can't figure this out, but how do I get the terminal out to make this work? I know the lower section pulls out as one, but how do I get the individual terminal out? I've tried lightly tugging and trying to push it up from the bottom with a screwdriver. I thought it would be very easy.

Also, my setup looks differnt than Don's photo. I assume purple wire in an empty slot should get it done?

No, not at all. I just don't want to rip it out. I want to start somewhere basic and this seemed like an easy task. I'm humble enough to admit I don't know what to do. I don't want to yank it. Should it just pull out? Thanks.

Could be wrong =?? yet im thinking its done @ the actual headlight switch. find the wire (test light) thats shows Hot when parking lights are ON!! - Then find a terminal on switch thats is hot when parking & head lights are on-both positions on switch & hook the parking lights to that terminal.

Thanks. I think they are just locked tabbed. Will try later. I just couldn't get it to pull out. I've been advised what to do.

usually this type connector -wires can be removed by inserting a thin -very small screwdriver blade in over the top?? or bottom of the specific wire - a small locking tab within the catual woer end is present & must be pushed down to remove . Done opposite to reinsert & lock it back in . driver goes in the front area to release tab- not wire end toward loom.

The conversion to make the parking lights burn with the headlights is done at the headlight switch. That's the connectors for the turnsignal switch that your messing with.
