Re: Reputation feature member poll
My biggest issue with it as a Moderator, I can see someones ego getting bruised or someone taking the negative wrong. If you want to Thank someone type it out for all to see

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Maybe I am wrong but no one will know who left a neg. or why. Today I left a post thinking I was helping another member and found out later that may have discouraged that member from getting his parts from a member here. I had no way of knowing he was buying from a member here but when I found out I fully expected to get a negative. I don't know if I did or not but I could completely understand if I did.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
I have been members of all sorts of forums. Mainly Aquarium and car related. I have even been a moderator on a forum and delt with petty issues and hurt feelings. I can see this feature only leading to problems. Its easy enough to type something and someone else take it the wrong way let alone having a pos. and neg. button to click on. Im new here and have felt welcome among some of you who seem to have been on here a while, but to someone else new it may be a turn off. My 2¢

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Ray I am a mod on Truckin Magazines website and I know what you are saying and fully agree. One thing we have going here that others don't is that we don't play politics here nor do we have "cliques". To me this is the best site on the internet for early vans.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Ok, I hit the "hate it" button before I realized there was a "don't think it's necessary button"! I do agree with newbie RayAllen and old timers G-man and Vanishing Breed. If you've got something to say, type it out, don't use a + or a - to do it!!!

Re: Reputation feature member poll
I agree with G-Man.
Give praise freely when warranted and deal with the negative offline keeping the positive forward momentum of the site and its members....
Basing any individuals "Reputation" on a number that "anyone" even John-Doe who joined this morning with no van, vanning or mechanical experience can manipulate just seems wrong!
Any active new member needing help quickly learns within a month who to ask for advice, information and or assistance and that our "Combined knowledge" is our true strength that could never be matched by any single individual because of a number......
We all have our opinions on this subject. This is just mine.....

Re: Reputation feature member poll
I didn't implement this feature when we revamped either. I felt we were all together and on the same level and didn't feel the idea of tiers within the group was a good idea. In addition, like some have mentioned, it can be largely inaccurate, with no validity to justify it.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
I agree with what most are saying. I don't feel it is necessary to have this feature also. As already stated a few times and more I'm sure...If you have something to say just say it and let's keep moving forward. We are all here for one reason and one reason only. Friendship, Help, and the love of Vanning(ok a few reasons). Again I am not saying it's a bad thing, just something I feel we could do without. Just my 2 cents worth on it.....Happy Vanning to all.

Agreed. Got to try them out to see what work and what doesn't.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Mcfly, you don't have a bad rep. A 2 just means not many members are voting yet. Now a -2 would not look good.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Does 'post count', age, location and/or registration date have any meaning? Maybe, maybe not, but if you're a newbie and looking to reach out to someone, it can give them a bit of a feel for each user.
(Personally, I'm quite proud of my age, but for some reason I just can't do the 'Happy B-day' thing.)
A reputation rating may have the following benefits:
- Newbies would be more comfortable reaching out to someone with a higher rating.
- Let users know that others don't like their tone and/or advice anonymously. Probably not required here. I'm sure someone will call mean or bad posters out soon enough.
- Gives us something more to play with. Maybe like a 'like' button on FB.
- Makes one pause a little longer and double check that their post won't be misconstrued as being mean or insensitive.
I know that over the last 3 years I've posted a bunch of stuff that was probably taken the wrong way because it was written hastily or maybe my weird sense of humor was misunderstood. Hopefully these people get to know me a little better as time goes on.
A reputation rating is definitely not required here, but I won't mind seeing a trail run for a little while.

"Don't think it's necessary"
I'm just indifferent to it, didn't even know it existed until I saw a thread on it.

Re: Reputation feature member poll
I have only selected a couple posts that I thought were valuable, but I have no idea whether we are rating the post or the poster. I see Twinpilot has a reputation of 5, so I guess it's the poster... I'm not sure I like that idea. Twinpilot's at least a 10! lol

Re: Reputation feature member poll
Ive got to agree with everyones views on this!! Biggest thing ive always noticed it the fact that were all having different personalitys, Perceptions , and some things in daily life that can affect us in posotive and sometimes negative ways. Someone giving Praise to someone can be determined by someone else as a negative. Things that really shouldnt affect us here on the forum actually do - and even off forum - doing buisness with another that we never realized is on the group here , at no fault of the seller / buyer can be determined as a negative for us here . Sad to say- yet were all different in beliefs , Rasing and even location in our great country can affect our views & perceptions of anothers posts and views .We should all remember = we all are very different and do some real Thinking before posting as what we post could affect someone - That we never meant to do that to someone . I do believe we all should be adults & help each other as to our best ability & experiences. Just my 50 cents worth - Happy Vannin to all.
